BT Surftime Disconnection Help!!!

Jammy007 (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 9th January 2005, 15:23

I`ve been with BT surftime for over 2 years and never had a problem but recently (the past week) its been disconnecting me every 10minutes. I havent changed any settings and the obvious things like using outlook and it disconnecting etc arent an issue

I rang the customer help line and they told me to ring BT and get them to increase the gain on the telephone line which i did but still no success. I`ve even tried another internet provider called Loaded which uses local rates as a pay and go to check to see if it was a hardware problem. I was connected to this for well over an hour.

I`ve reformatted, downloaded the new dialler, i dont know what else could be wrong. Please help peeps.

Jamie

Similar problem with NTL, which after months of hassle & NTL allegedly boosting the gain (as it was landlords second line & I was using my home NTL account on it) was resolved by my logging the length of time\number of dial attempts, the speed when finally connected & when it kicked me off over a 3 hour period (problem wasnt just tied to just using them as ISP & took 4 different modems to get 52K connect speed).

Sent that in a very short curt e-mail to NTL, went to work came back & found all problems solved.

Moved flats 6 weeks later (annoying huh).

I ig ig ig ig ig ig ignore the phone the whole day through
To surf surf surf surf surf surf surf the net is what I really like to do
It ain`t no trick to get rich quick
If you contract out your outsourcing
Its all mine! Its all mine! Its all mine! Its all mine!
And a million users whine!

We delete user`s data by the score
A thousand profiles, sometimes more
But we don`t care why we wipe `em for

You want my advice pal... upgrade to broadband, and get a decent computer. that should sort out your dialing issue, because guess what you don`t need to dial with broadband.

That`s just avoiding the issue though, not solving it.

Assuming they are within range of a ADSL enabled exchange & the amount of time spent on line (for d/l`s etc) warrants it..
