Taken plunge with Broadband - I think it is a good deal?

Wanadoo £17-99 per month, free modem, free set up and 2 filters free.
Approx, 10 days to set up, cancelled freeserve anytime at same time of registering therefore cost will be £3 per month more for 10 x speed (limit is 2 Gb per month, should be enough for me). 8)

Can`t wait to get it! :D

Sounds ok...better that my NTL anyhow (£17.99 for 150k) although...

It`s ideal for those who want high-speed Internet, but not to download a lot. Do whatever you want to do with a 2GB allowance per month - surf, email, photos, gaming, music - you name it!

2GB = Surfing 8 hours a day? what happens after 8 hours? do you get cut off or are you billed extra? NTL (as far as I know) hasnt got any limits like this...I download loads of stuff and my PC is online for long periods at a time (usually from Friday till Sunday without turning it off) and I have never had any limits applied that I know of :/

Yeh, I was also looking at this - sounds promising. Only thing I don`t quite understand is the monthly usage allowance (as stated below). Is this any good?

Quote:
Online activity: Broadband 512k

Surfing: 8 hours a day

Sending photos by email: 30 per week

Receiving photos by email: 30 per week

Downloading music tracks: 20 per week

Sending emails without attachments: 400 per week

Receiving emails without attachments: 400 per week

Watching videos: 30 minutes per week

Online gaming: 1.5 hours per week

TOTAL 2GB

Read the small print at the bottom of the info page that says usage limit will not come into effect until later in 2004 and then you can choose to upgrade your package to a higher usage. Get it while u can!

This seems ok if you dont mind the constraints. I would rather go for the lower bandwidth NTL connection and not have p*** taking rules laid down on me. In the long run you would get more `bandwidth` with the 150k connection on 24/7.

Its like getting a Jag and being told that you can only drive it for 2 hours a day!

Aw, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent.
Forty percent of all people know that.

That list was an example of what could make up the total amount you can download. You aren`t limited to just 30 photos each way per week. If you don`t download videos for example, you have a lot more room for photos. If depends how you cut the pie, that`s how I read it.

By the way, NTL DOES have a cap on use. It`s 1Gb per day. More than enough for most people. It`s only the people who are downloaded stuff all day long (probably illegal stuff from file sharing sites, such as DVDs) that it`ll really affect. Normal users should be ok, I`ve certainly never been anywhere near it. :)

Don`t know if this helps or has been posted, but Telewest and NTL are increasing their connections by 50% for free, making a 512k connection 768k.....and so on.....

My Telewest is £25 a month unlimited for 512k, don`t know about NTL though.

Yep, there was another thread about it, the figures don`t quite up to me though. NTL is supposed to be upping speeds by 50%. Yet the 600k speed is going up to 750k, that`s only a 25% increase.

Details here.

I agree with HD462 above, it is like a pie that you cut bigger or smaller pieces from.
(life is like a box of chocolates).
I don`t play online games (no time, always on this blooming site!), send loads of photos, or go on the net more than 4 hours a day (normally).

I think it is basically 2Gb of traffic, limit does not apply yet. I spoke to two friends prior to registering, both have own companies, they both advised that 2Gb should be ok.

As has also been said, if you want you can upgrade later. I thought, try minimum and see if an upgrade will be necessary later.

Antway, It`s coming soon! :D
