codec needed to play movie

watermelon (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 12th April 2004, 20:45

I have just downloaded my first movie from kazaa - it has taken forever and now I can`t play it :(

Its a .avi file and I am trying to view it using windows media player. However when I try to do this, at the bottom of the screen it says `locating/sending request for/error downloading codec.

The sound plays ok but on the screen is just a lot of patterns and line moving around!

Can someone help please?

open your shared folder and play the file using DivX player

Bear in mind, the file could very well be false, a lot of Kazaa users share false files with fake names to increse their bandwidth allowance

There`s a program called G Spot Codec Finder. It will look at your (legitimate I hope!) movie and tell you what codecs it requires. You can find it on the net.

**edit : ps the patterns on screen is Window Media Players default output when playing audio.
