Junk Mail Arrrrrrrrrrrgh!

Hi Guys & Gals,

I am fed up with the ammount of junk mail I get and no matter what I do I cant seem to stop in in fact it just gets worse daily. I made the mistake once of replying to be removed ( what a mistake that was!! :/ ). Anyone know of a program to stop most of the junk, I`ve tried mailwasher but it still turns up through that and I still have to delete it! >:(

Guys please help! :(

Use the "filter" feature to get rid of rude ones, ones about loans, ones about Viagara, ones about printer ink cartridges, etc, etc - I`ve got about seven categories each using about 10 different words that appear in the subject line.

Mailwasher is far from 100% but the thing to remember is that you have the ability to delete your e-mails at your ISPs server without having to download them via your e-mail program.

Not really what you are after but my advice would be to report the spam that way you are cutting it out at source for others also not just your self.

The solution you seek really will just mask the symptoms of the problem so you don`t get to see it.

The more users that report spam the less spam there will be in the system, the less spam in the system the less users get spam. (also it will reduce the load on servers etc.)

It also closes the open relays down that the spammers use to send there mail making it harder for them to make there money and if they don`t make money the are less likely to send spam,

http://spamcop.net/ is a very good tool for doing such reporting.

I find that its easier to filter out the stuff you do want by checking the from address than the stuff you don`t want. Filtering on significant words occasionally lead to some valid emails being shifted to the delete folder e.g an email from a friend saying he was moving to Acocks green :).
Plus spammers are getting cunning by sending HTML emails with misleading titles with widely varying email addresses so you can`t filter them.
Likewise I`ve found that the filtering software can`t handle multi section messages as it only checks the first section which is usually just junk and doesn`t contain the words you`re searching for.
