Quote:
Radio 1 DJ Annie Nightingale, the station's first female presenter, who went on to become its longest-serving host, has died at the age of 83.
Nightingale joined the station in 1970 and remained the only woman on the line-up for 12 years.
She was known for her passion for a wide range of music, championing everything from prog rock and punk to acid house and grime.
one of those DJs, like John Peel, didn't let old age stop her liking new music, and again like John Peel, could listen to her show, and would love some, and hate some of what she played, but you never knew what you might discover, and could listen to her talk about whatever she felt like :)

There are some people you are astonished to hear have died of an age as they are fixed, ageless, in your memory.
Annie was one of those.
Not so much gone to join the choir invisible but certainly to give a bloody good critique of it.
Certainly influenced the musical taste and knowledge of a good percentage of those of a certain age.

I used to listen to her, John peel and also whispering Bob Harris when music was really good. Nowadays I could not tell you what is in the charts, as I tend to listen to the good old days of music.
