Looking for a Digital DVD Recorder with upscaling feature
Hi,
I`ve recently purchased a new LCD TV (Samsung LE37A656A) and now want to buy a Digital DVD Recorder that can also play and upscale ordinary DVD`s. Price Range - up to £250. Also want advice regarding cables to TV and Yamaha AV amp. Thanks
RE: Looking for a Digital DVD Recorder with upscaling feature
Panasonic do some nice upscaling DVD recorders.
Take a look at this one at Argos for under £200: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5337022/Trail/searchtext%3EPANASONIC+DVD.htm
160GB HDD, Freeview tuner (record one while watching another), upscales to 1080p, and records to just about every type of disc you could want.
I`d be happy with that! (Unless you want multi-region, which you didn`t mention...

for a extra 12 quid, amazon have the Panasonic DMR-EX78EB for £206, seems to be the cheapest for this recorder by about £50.
It has a 250gb hard drive, freeview+, upscaling, usb, ect, ect,

RE: Looking for a Digital DVD Recorder with upscaling feature
My good lady just treated us to a Sony RDR-HXD890. Very pleased with it, upscaling of movies seemed very good to me and the range of recording SP/EP etc is very good.
She ordered it from Amazon, £178 inc. P&P. Almost £50 cheaper than Currys/Dixons and Sony stores so maybe worth a shot.
The Guide+ EPG is a bonus as it controls/changes our Sky HD to the channel we set on the timer for recording.
Worth a wee swatch mate :)

RE: Looking for a Digital DVD Recorder with upscaling feature
Hi Sue, Pat & Choagy,
Thank you very much for taking the time and trouble to reply to my query.
I`ve also heard from several friends over the Christmas period that Panasonic and Sony are top brands. And it does seem to worth it to spend a little bit extra to get the larger hard drive - so I`m leaning more towards the 250gb Panasonic.
But thanks again for all the helpful advice.
Cheers, and I wish you all a Happy New Year!!!

You won`t go wrong with either of those.......
Ste
We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

Indeed he won`t! I would personally buy Panny over Sony any day, but there isn`t a lot in it.
And I only picked that particular model because it was on sale at Argos, which is a good retailer in the event of any problems. :)
RE: Looking for a Digital DVD Recorder with upscaling feature
Hi Sue/Choagy/Steve,
Rather than start another link....a friend of mine is now looking for an upscaling DVD Recorder which is multi-region or can be hacked to multi-region, since she has a number of Region 1 dvd`s. Is there such a product available? Thanks

RE: Looking for a Digital DVD Recorder with upscaling feature
Hi Pat, Sorry for the delay in replying, but I have been working away for a few weeks. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I took your advice & went down to Richer Sounds and bought the multi-region Panny. I have to say that the Richer Sounds product offering is small, but is more than made up for it by it`s very knowledgeable and very helpful staff. (Congratulations and thanks to Justin at the Liverpool store!!)
And many thanks to you, and this Forum for all the sound advice I have received.
