Page 1 of new hd-tv! advice and deals please!

hello guys n` girls!
my tv is about to die on me so loooking for advice on a new model
needs to be full hd, 1080p/i with hdmi inputs x 2 also need pc-dvi input. 28" or 32"
dont care about the make
buget £400.00
anyone know of a set like that! :)

You`ve stated you want "full HD", by which most people mean 1080p.
However, you then state "1080p/1080i".
Which is to be then?
1080p is hard enough to get in 32", never mind for your budget.
1080i (720p) is easily achieved within your budget and size constraints though.
£400 will get you a myriad of 1080i/720p LCD tv`s, but I`m not going to recommend any particular brands as it always starts pointless arguments.
The only thing I would recommend is that you look for 100hz processing.
It deals with fast motion better than 50hz.
Again, you should be able to get that within your budget.
You can get a Toshiba, for example, with their `M100 processing` for £400 easy enough.

I`d go for a Toshiba, Samsung or Sony in general.

And you won`t see the difference of 1080p over 1080i at 32" so don`t worry about it

That`s what I was going to say. To be honest, I can`t tell much difference between the two on my 42" set. (And personalIy, I do think a lot of this HD/Blu Ray stuff is over-rated... admittidly, some HD programmes look fantastic - but more often than not, if you have a decent upscaling DVD then the picture is more than adequate).

as bowfer says everyone is different and each will recomend something equally different... for me look no further than LG Scarlet range! If you have a RicherSounds near by go and see them i cannot recommend them highly enough!

Go to the stores.
Look at the sets within your budget.
Try to see ALL sets with a similar picture at the same time, let`s say motor racing or a footie match.

Now look for the obvious:
Pixellation: usually very bad and noticable up close on most LCD`s and less so on Plasma.
Motion Blur: This is when something moves fast on screen and seems to remain on screen for a short time afterwards, fast moving stuff like the cars and the football/players sprinting will show this up.
Colour: Yep, I know, really obvious. I was looking at Sharp and Toshiba LCD`s when I ended up with my Panny Plasma but they both looked good on their own... then I saw them side by side, same input, same settings as the Panasonic.

Sharp looked nice but grey when it should be black, Tosh was better on black but washed out on normal picture, Panasonic was as sharp as a pin and that was with 4 inches larger screen!
(Tosh/Sharp 46", Panny 50")

THEN another decision, wall mount or tabletop?
If you have dodgy or stud partition walls you may want to consider LCD higher as they are much much lighter than plasma. If you have good walls or going to table mount, not going to connect it to a PC for normal PC useage (ie: it`s ok to watch movies and TV through the PC) then I`d go Plasma.
£400 might be a bit restrictive but you may extend the budget once you see the quality jump.

And if it`s this week, if you have a mate with a Costco card they`re doing a Panasonic 37" LCD for I think £450 icl. VAT and 5 yr gtee.

</edit> just spotted some of your spec requirements, as mentioned "FULL HD" is 1080P which I`d be surprised youd find (although I think the 37" Panny is 1080P), you ask for 2 HDMI *and* PC DVi, I`ve never seen both on one set. You use either/or HDMi/DVi for digital connection and usually have a 9 pin DSUB for PC connector. </editoff>

I don`t really know what you mean here, Jimbo.
How can they all have been set up with the same settings?
They were all at backlight setting 27, colour setting 25 and contrast setting 90?
I doubt that.
Different manufacturers don`t even use the same numeric values for their settings.
Where my Toshiba will have a backlight setting of -50 to +50, a Sony might have a backlight setting of -10 to +10.
So how can you set them the same?
Or do you mean they were all set to their default settings?
Again, hardly a proper test as one manufacturer`s default settings may be different from another`s.

A proper test would have been for you to fiddle with all their settings until you were happy with the respective pictures.
If you still liked the Panasonic over the others, that`s fair enough.
But setting them all to the same settings would be daft.

And, shock horror, after about 18 months I bought the TV for my lounge this week. :o
EDIT:had pointed to a Sony 32V4000 with a `free` surround sound system worth a few hundred quid for £400. Gone now though.
Definitely no `need` for 1080p at 32".

I will also add that there is no need for Full HD on a 32".
