Kenwood or Sony Amp??

ram (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 9th January 2002, 15:19

Hi

I`m getting an amp but not sure which one to get. I can spend up to £200 -£250 and like the look of the Sony STR DE475 and the Kenwood KRFV050D.
Anyone got one of these amps, and if so, are they any good?

I have a feeling that the alternatives listed above are not home cinema amps - try the Yamaha 420 (a snip at £220 from Richer Sounds at the moment), or, if you can push the boat out, go for the Denon 1602 - with the newfangled Prologic 2 decofding for all your stereo material (i.e. TV, video) (£270, http://www.hifijunkies.co.uk).

I have the Kenwood KRFV5050 (£159 is qed-uk.com). It`s my first home cinema amp, and I know the "serious" people with serious money to spend sneeze at it, but I`m very pleased.

Suggest you enter a search in the HW forum for the model numbers to get some past views on these machines. As early post indicated, the Yamaha 420 has frequently been recommended over the Kenwood.
