RE: Recommendations: Sony Amp and Floor Standing Speakers.

I bought some Mordaunt Short 902 signature speakers frpm Richer sounds for £140. Excellent speakers and they do perfectly with my Beech Laminate flooring!!

Westy - top tip regarding the squash balls - I`m off to a sports shop now!!

RE: Marantz 4200 or Denon 1602?

Jurrasic Park 3 is also available in DTS - which the Denon 1602 is able decode, so it shouldn`t be a problem. When I was considering buying the Marantz over the Denon, Clayts advised me to go for the Denon as it had something in the connections that the Marantz didn`t - therefore making it `futureproof`. Went for the Denon and have no complaints at all.

RE: Need help choosing one of the players listed inside.

I`ve got the Sony DVPNS300 - and I can`t fault it. The picture is excellent and I`ve got it going through a Denon amp, so needless to say, the sound s great. Really easy to use and looks good too.

RE: which A/V amp?

I was looking to get the Sony 215 - but was told that you can only connect it if your DVD player has coaxial out (i thinks thats right) my Sony NS300 doesn`t have one, so I bought the Denon 1802 instead, with some Mordaunt Short signature speakers. The sound is fantastic and I definately recommend this amp. I bought it for £250 (reduced from £350) from hifistore.co.uk

THX

Ok, dolby digital you need a decoder, DTS you need a DTS decoder and player (plus DTS recorded disc). Whats the score with THX?

RE: Lack of audio inputs on Sanyo widescreen TV

Hi Clayts

Well I`ve now got the system! In the end I went for the Denon amp and Mordaunt Short 902 signature speakers. Everything sounds great but I have a few questions:

The speakers have 4 connections - HF & LF. I presume this is for Bi wiring? Do I use the seperate spring clip connectors on the amp for this and end up having two sets of speaker cable running to the speakers?

I can`t seem to get the DTS function to work. When I switch it on whilst playing a DVD, the sound goes silent. DVD is connected to the amp using a coaxial cable. Should I use audio in/out`s aswell?

When watching Sky, the sound is only analogue not digital. I have connected Sky using audio cables only. The SKY box is a run of the mill panasonic one.

Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

RE: Lack of audio inputs on Sanyo widescreen TV

Its from hifistore.co.uk - they`ve got £100 off it at the moment!

Thanks for all your help.

RE: Lack of audio inputs on Sanyo widescreen TV

Hi Clayts

Sorry to be a pain again! I`ve read reviews on both of the amps you recommended - Denon and the Marantz. They both look pretty good. Why do you recommend the Denon? I`ve found it for £250 and it looks like I`m gonna go for it - will it connect to my DVD player (don`t want to have the same problem as the Sony HK215) and TV (sanny without audios).

This is the last problem I promise!!

Ps anyone else out there who has either one of these amps I`d love your feedback too!

RE: Lack of audio inputs on Sanyo widescreen TV

Cheers - I`ll get back to you and let you know how I got on!!

RE: Lack of audio inputs on Sanyo widescreen TV

looking to spend £150 - £250 on the amp and £100 on a sub, plus £70 on the front speakers (I`ve already got surrounds and centres)

Kenwood or Sony Amp??

Hi

I`m getting an amp but not sure which one to get. I can spend up to £200 -£250 and like the look of the Sony STR DE475 and the Kenwood KRFV050D.
Anyone got one of these amps, and if so, are they any good?

RE: Sony HTK215 and Toshiba sd110

hi - check out robertwhyteltd.co.uk. They sell the HTK 215 for an amazing £219!! Also have a look at Pricerunner.com for comparative deals.

RE: Lack of audio inputs on Sanyo widescreen TV

Clayts,

Thinking of getting either the Sony STRDE475 or the Kenwood V050D. What have you heard about these amps?

Cheers for the advice on the sub - I`ll probably pay a bit more then - any reccomendations?

RE: Lack of audio inputs on Sanyo widescreen TV

Cheers Clayts

If you have any feedback on the Amp and speakers (Eltax monitor III bookshelf & Gale SW5 sub) I`d greatly appreciate it. I know the amp and the speakers don`t break the bank, but I`m viewing them as a starter pack to upgrade later, plus my lounge is like a shoe box and I don`t want to blow my eardrums!!

RE: Lack of audio inputs on Sanyo widescreen TV

Hi Clayts

(a) The SCART sockets on the TV are hogged by SKY and my DVD player.
(b)I haven`t actually bought the amp yet but I`m just making sure that I get one thats compatible. I am thinking of buying the Sony STR DE475 B/S. The connections available on this amp according to the spec are 1 optical input and 1 coaxial input.
(c)Connections from my NS300 are stereo audio output, coaxial dig audio output, but NO optical dig output.

I`ve just read another thread that states that the Sony HK215 can only be used if the DVD player has Optical Dig output - the amp I`m looking at doesn`t require this does it?

Any help greatly appreciated as I`m a bit of a novice!

Lack of audio inputs on Sanyo widescreen TV

Hi, I`m looking to connect a prologic amp to my DVD player (sony Ns300). However, my TV (a Sanyo 28" 3D surround sound don`t know the model) doesn`t have any other inputs other than two scart leads (both used) what shall I do?
Is my DVD player 5:1 sound?

Home Cinema problems.

Thinking of getting a home cinema kit, or maybe some seperates. I`ve got a Sony NS300S player and the Sony receiver with 5 speakers that I`ve seen in Comet (don`t know model) for £299 looks good and wil perfectly match my player. I`m also considering going to Richer Sounds and see what they can do for me for a similar price.

What confuses me is, where does everything plug in? I`ve got a sanyo tv with two scart leads, both of which are utilised by Sky and the DVD player. I want to use the speakers for normal TV as well as DVD. Any ideas welcomed, both on the set up and what system I should buy for £300. Is the Sony one in Comet any good?

RE: Sony DVD & Sanyo Tv

Hi Westy, cheers for the advice - looks like I had better start saving up! The DVD I have got is a Sony DVPNS300. Like I say, I just put the scart into the back of the player, and then in the back of the telly. I get a picture - but no sound. I think it may bre something to do with which scart socket I put it in on the tv, but then again, it could be something to do with the DVD player. When I use the leads (phono connections)without the scart, then this works o.k. But the phono leads are at the front of the tv and it looks crap, plus I suspect the picture is not being utilised to its full potential. Help - I have nevr been beaten by technology before!!

RE: Sony DVD & Sanyo Tv

Thanks. Yes it is the same tv. So, do I change the setting on the DVD player aswell. It is possible to change it from Vid/RGB/S Video. Which one should I choose? The Dvd advertises the fact that it is equipped with RGB for dynamic sound - so I presume this is the best setting?

Sony DVD & Sanyo Tv

I`ve just entered the world of DVD. I`ve bought a Sony DVD player and I have a Sanyo 28" widescreen TV. I had a spare scart lead and hooked the systems up. The only problem is that there is no sound. The picture comes through both AV1 & AV2, but is silent. When I plug in the co axial leads (the red/white/yellows things) into the TV, there is sound - but the background sound is louder than the dialogue. Is this something to do with the scart lead? I have a feeling that the scart lead was left over from my video. I have tried setting the DVD to S video, but it still stays silent. Can anyone suggest any options?
