Looking to replace my 42" plasma - advice needed
I principally watch films on DVD and sports (rugby, NFL, F1, boxing) and have been told that fast moving sports look bad on LCD, but not on plasma, which apparently also has a slightly superior contrast.
The sales assistant in Richer Sounds recommended the Panasonic TH42PZ80 - is this a good screen?
Any advice welcome. :)

Looks like a very nice TV with a fair bit of future proofing
Amazon link here
1080p
Deep Colour (HDMI 1.3)
24p native reproduction and so on.
Hope this helps. I know you`re looking to get a plasma as opposed to an LCD but it may be worth looking at the new Samsung series 6 LCDs

How about this? Ideal if you have a low budget but still want 1080p

I`d ideally like it to be wall mountable - I can`t tell whether the Panasonic is or not. I suppose what I`m really after is the same screen as I have now (TH42PWD7) but capable of 1080p.

Is there any reason to suspect the Panasonic wouldn`t be wall mountable?
Not being cheeky, just wondering if you`d heard/read something.
PRC-direct sell it with a wall mount, and I can`t think of any reason it couldn`t/shouldn`t.

also have alook at wall mounts on Amazon - dirt cheap from what i remember...:)
Don`t get the obsession with wall mounts, myself.
Most people seem to think they should wall-mount them at the sort of height you would mount a mirror. :/
Fine, if you want to watch your TV standing up... :D
The only person I know to put some thought into his wall-mount used a laser to project from his seated eye-line to the wall.
So his TV is wall-mounted a lot lower than most people.
More like the height it would be on a piece of AV furniture.
In other words, a proper height, instead of something skin to being in the front row of the cinema, looking up all the time.
Mine is where a TV should be, IMO.

I think the fact they can be wall-mounted is just a by-product of the their natural shape, rather than the TV designers specifically deciding "hey, let`s make them wall-mountable".
I think wall mounting is just a fashion thing anyway.
Like I said, 99% of wall-mounted sets I`ve seen are mounted at dreadfully unnatural heights and viewing angles, leading to sore necks etc.etc.

Like Bowfer I can`t stand tv`s that are mounted too high. My pet hate is the `flatscreen above the fireplace` scenario or the kitchen tv on a ceiling mount like a Chinese bloody takeaway.
