Hardware Forum
Hi,
I have been looking at the various forums here and it seems to me that the above is a good player for the money (good sound, picture etc).
The questions I have are:
Is this a good BUDGET player or just a good player??
If I spend more can I get something considerably better?
There seems to be a lot of people very pro this machine and also a bit of a Sony faction creeping in, so let me here your thoughts!!
I suppose the answer to your question is that if the Toshiba 210 is so highly recommended, which it is, then why bother spending more ?
I have one, and compared to my old LG3350, it is major-league better. Both machines cost me the same money. Going by reviews it`s had, and awards it`s won, it`s a damned good player at any cost and the fact that you can get it for £200, or cheaper, is a bonus.
Sony, in my opinion, are like BMW. Over rated, over priced and overtaken by others, but it`s still the name that people seem to want to say they`ve got. I tend to go by reviews rather than name, hence the hotch-potch of AV makes I`ve got.
I looked at the Thomson DVD players, a Sony thingy and the Tosh.
Got the Tosh
Mine is multi region, better menu, better colours (though the Sony did react quicker to start up and scene switching) than the other two and with the deal leconepts were running, the competition didn`t get close.
A buff with an expensive set up (seperates, 100hz etc) had to grudgingly admit it is a very good player... as Andy says, why pay more when you can put the extra money to other kit (and better cables, will make a difference over an expensive machine with cheaper leads!)

i have one to,stunnin.!!
but........like everything in this world its not perfect.so don`t rush out and expect to buy perfection.a few, including mine do have noisy drives ,which is ok mostly, but during the quiter scenes its a bit like a ticking clock.you don`t hear it mostly but when you do its damn annoying.mine is about as audible as a vcr.i also have a few vcd problems, which does`nt bother me that much as i don`t watch many.
those aside its a mighty fine machine.
shnozzer.
Thanks all!!
I dont think I have had a bad word said about this machine.
I think I shall toddle off and git me one!!
Any ideas as to where is the best place (online) to get one multi region etc?
Thanks again.
RE: Toshiba 210e debate
Try www.techtronics.com you can get a multi region in silver for £199 inc vat and delivery i did loads of research and found this to be the best its also RCE comp. good luck
Thanks for that!
What is the score with RCE comp? Do I have to mess about with changing disks at vital points etc?
Also if I dont want to back up anything to video is it worth getting the Macrovision sorted? Its £30 cheaper if you just go with the standard Mod instead of the Mod plus.
Ta.
If you don`t want to back up dvds then the only other reason to have Macrovision removed is if you are planning on a projector - I understand that they don`t like Macrovision (but I don`t know why....).
Hey
I would recommend this machine. I have one in the house and have not noticed any of the noisy drive problems some people mention. I got my mum one from www.multiregionmagic.com and my girlfriend got one from there too, good service, ordered it on a thursday morning got it on the friday all sealed up and including instructions on how to play RCE discs in case you will ever need to.
Overall a very good player :)
RE: Toshiba 210e debate
according to what they tell you there are no workaround tricks needed which i guess means you dont have to do fudge all to play RCE disks. Personally im not gonna be backing up on video or using a projector so im going for the standard mod and yes, it is 30 squids cheaper! Let us know how you get on....
