Anybody recomend a decent dvd recorder

dkuk2000 (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 13th November 2005, 21:21

The wife and i are currently thinking about replacing the old vhs (spit) with a dvd recorder.
I`m after a mulit region recorder (out the box or hack)+/- format.

Any ideas ?

You can buy any Dvd recorder in multiregion if you shop online, the Panasonic DMR ES10 records nearly all dvd formats, LP recording with high resolution and there is a hard disc version (DMR EH50) which is ideal for editing and time slipping which can cost as low as £270 (£130 of rrp). if you want slightly cheaper, Avoid if it has: No RGB scart, no Progressive scan and if it a Mustek or a Goodmans recorder as their products would do better as scrap metal. Panasonic is, quality wise as good as Sony except they charge less (thats why i always buy panny stuff).

Multi-region Panasonic DMR ES10 now £139.95 at Richer sounds

I bought one a few months back and I am very happy with it, given the much better build quality and more advanced features ( Time slip with DVDRam, videoplus timer that records when it should etc ) compared to the cheapo supermarket recorders I would have no hesitation in recommending one of these to anyone.

What made my mind up was that in almost every thread on here asking about Good Reliable recorders Panasonic would be mentioned in the answers.

There are a few reviews on it here

The Panasonic DMR-ES10 is a good reliable recorder and you can buy one from Richer Sounds for £139, the lowest price in UK.

I would recommend a DVD recorder with a hard drive (unless you have Sky+).

I bought my Pioneer 420 a year ago from Peter Tyson and I`m working through my video collection from stuff I`ve taped off TV (don`t throw away your VCR just yet!) I play my videos, save them to the hard drive, edit out any adverts and then copy onto DVD. The process is very simple.

For normal, everyday recording, you set it the same way you would a VCR but, with it having a hard drive, you don`t need to use up blank DVDs all the time. You just save it to the HD, watch it when you want, then delete it. You can even record one programme and watch a previously recorded (or a DVD) at the same time.

I highly recommend this DVD recorder.

Jill

Forgot to say...
I paid £10 extra for it to be multi region.

There was a fault with a few ES10`s in that the "ext link" would switch itself on randomly when using dvd-ram discs, mine did have this problem so i flashed the recorder with newer firmware (i bought one of the first batch out)+ its never done it since... If your recorder starts doing this e-mail me + ill sort you out the disc ... + b.t.w the ES10 is a really top recorder, amazing picture quality from my recordings ive done... you have bought well :D

Just had a look on panasonics official website+ they now have the latest firmware on there now for the ES10..
