Philips DVDR 3320V Chapter Mark Problem

I`m trying to back up my videos onto DVD and everything works ok except `chapter marks`.

I`m initialising the discs first and then `dubbing` the video as per instructions. I have been leaving the whole video to record and then playing back the DVD and adding chapter marks as it says on page 52 of the instruction manual. I then finalise the disc.

The chapter marks are recognised on the Philips DVD recorder I used to record it on but they are not recognised on my computer or my Duraband (£17.99) DVD player.

Can anyone help me on this one?

Free Dell Printers... Upgrade to all-in-one??

Hi Guys,

I`m looking at buying a Dell package and right now there is an offer of a Free Printer. I usually buy Epson printers when needed because of cartridge replacement costs but was also thinking of maybe getting an all-in-one (sometimes need `one off` photocopies).

Can anyone tell me if these Dell printers( 725)are worth having, should I consider upgrading (an extra £9.95 for all-in-one 810) or buy a stand alone, other make from elsewhere?

Hope someone can help.

RE: George Foreman Grills - Biggest?

If I ever see a topic in here for `worst topic ever`, this is getting my first vote...

I guess the thread stops here! Not because jc808 thinks it`s the `worst topic ever` but because I`ve bought one.

I managed to buy a `brand new` one that someone was selling on our local newspapers auction site (stuff4saleingrimsby).

It`s the `Double Knockout` grill with the twin lids that both have a temp gauge on them. I paid £45 and it`s brand new, still in it`s box.

I`ll still keep my old one until we`ve had a new kitchen fitted in the bungalow we`re moving into.

Thanks everyone,
Jill

RE: George Foreman Grills - Biggest?

Thanks Guys, I`ll take my tape measure along to currys and have a look.

George Foreman Grills - Biggest?

I already have a George Foreman Grill with a cookplate measuring about 22cm square and it`s absolutely fantastic but in heinsight it`s too small for all the grilled veg & meat we like to cook (doing WeightWatchers so eating loads veg, grilled chicken etc.). We have to take it in shifts.

I`d like to buy the biggest, best value one I can, especially as we`re moving house soon and will be without any proper cooking facilities for about 6 weeks. I think we can cope as I have a steamer, microwave, slow cooker and the grill.

Can anyone give me details of their grills cookplate dimentions with the cost and place they bought it?

Thanks

This year I`ve bought him a card and also 2 DVDs. One is the Simpsons one about how Homer and Marge met (I think - can`t stand The Simpsons) and the other is Truely, Madly, Deeply (I`m into chickflicks and he`s not). I`m going to wrap them both up in the same paper and let him choose. If he chooses one he`ll be happy, chooses the other and I will be.

*UPDATE*

He picked Truly, Madly, Deeply so we had an early night instead! ;)

He bought me flowers and a floaty balloon! I wonder if he carried it out of ASDA as it is or had it put in a bag?? :x

I have not been into a pub just for a drink in years, but as I only have 6mths I will make a point of going into one just to have a fag

Have you had some bad news Stu UK? Why only 6 months?

Are you thinking `Summer 2007` is THIS year? No, unfortunately it`s 18ish months that we still have to suffer staying at home.

Jill

RE: Woohoo!!! Smoking`s banned in ALL pubs/clubs

I have been a smoker for 41 years on and off but a ciggarette has NEVER touched my lips.

I was a passive smoker when growing up as a child and living at home with parents that both smoked. I was a passive smoker all my adult life if I chose to have a social life and go out to pubs or clubs. I tend to be a hermit during the winter or just go to the cinema and only go to pubs in the summer when it`s warm enough to sit in the beer garden. That will change next year!

Summer 2007 is not soon enough.

If I go into a pub I can choose to have an alcoholic drink or a soft one, I can`t choose whether to passive smoke or not.

As of summer 2007 I can, after 42 years, honestly claim to be a non-smoker!

RE: Life on Mars...

My apologies Dan but at least I`ve bought the thread back to the top as nobody had added to it since 8th Feb.

I`ll email you Paull and then let it die.

Jill

RE: Life on Mars...

Thanks Paull

I already have the first 5 episodes (I`ve only had time to watch the first 2 so far) so it`s only last night`s episode I`m missing.

I`ll send my e-mail address to you and let you choose whichever method you wish. It`s just that I promised to send it to my brother-in-law in USA next time I post off my sister`s monthly `fix` of Eastenders.

I did notice the whole series is being repeated weekly on BBC1 in the early hours of Tuesday mornings starting 20th Feb (from the BBC website) so it`d be another 6 weeks before I got to that episode again.

Thanks,

Jill

RE: valentines day pressie..do you bother?

Last year I booked for me and my husband to take a P & O cruise from Hull to Brugges (the home of chocolate!). It was only a 2 night thing costing about £70 for the both of us.

We left home on the morning of 13th Feb and on the way to Hull he apologised for not `having time` to buy me a Valentine`s gift. Hmmm... In my reckoning he still had at least 24 hours left and had just lost the chance of claiming to have forgotten.

Or maybe we`ll have an early night! ;)

Jill

RE: Life on Mars...

HELP!

I missed it last night (dvd hard drive full!) and I can`t see that it`s repeated.

Can anyone tell me if it is shown again? I`ve got all the others so far but c*cked up last night. Needless to say, I`ve gone through the hard drive on my dvd recorder and deleted a load of stuff.

RE: Under-age drinking at home - legalities?

Thankyou for all your replies, especially from our resident `Bobby`. I won`t be stopping her having the odd `pop` or two. There`s only 3 months until she`s 18 anyway.

My husband just wants to mention that in Canada the age for purchasing is 19 rather than 21 as is in USA and from what he`s saying, it`s illegal to even consume alcohol underage let alone buy it.

Thanks again,
Jill

Under-age drinking at home - legalities?

I admit I may be wrong but I always thought it was perfectly legal for a young person under the age of 18 to consume alcohol in their own home.

I`ve `Asked Jeeves` but all I seem come up with is legal ages in pubs. I even had it in my mind that it`s ok for children as young as 5 to have wine with a meal.

The reason I`m trying to find out is that my new husband (Canadian) thinks it`s unreasonable that my 17 year old daughter is `breaking the law` when we hold a party and her and her friends drink these `alcopops` and usually it`s new years eve and her friends` parents (our neighbours) are at the party too.

Any help on this one?

Jill

RE: Life on Mars...

If you type `life on mars` into ebay search you can bid on an undrinkable, rusty 6 pint Watneys Party Seven someone found in an attic! It`s going for £17.01 right now with 3 days still to go!

Maybe it`s time to get my old Triang scooter out of the garage, just in case they trade in their cop car for one.

The Great Loo Seat Debate

I heard the local radio presenter going on about the age old problem of men leaving the loo seat up and ladies leaving it down.

But why do we ever need to have the discussion at all when most toilet seat manufacturers provided an in-built solution....

THE TOILET LID!

We HAVE to leave our lid down to prevent the loo being used as a giant pet water bowl. Otherwise we`d have dead cats each time I use the toilet cleaner.
I shout at the TV / Radio everytime I hear `The Great Debate`. Maybe the Toilet manufacturers will stop making loo seats with lids if it`s only our house that actually use them. :/

Jill

PS

I`ve also stuck this notice on the wall...

If I`m not clean
After you flush
Then please take out,
The toilet brush!

It doesn`t matter... there`s always something new we learn.

Only just found out that the `Jackie` comic/magazine was named after a young worker in the publisher`s office... a young Jacqueline Wilson of `Story of Tracey Beaker and The Illustrated Mum` fame (well known children`s author).

RE: Quick! need help with a rather dull decision..

I guess you don`t own a video or dvd recorder.

Man with 2 brains is on BBC2 so easily taped from terrestrial then watch the other on Sky. Problem solved. Or rather not... they`ve both been on for at least half an hour!

RE: Ceramic and Halogen hobs Vs Gas Hob

Thanks for your replies.

Anyone else got an opinion?

Jill

RE: Why a partial NO SMOKING ban will never work

Maybe all us non-smokers should wear oxygen masks while we are `enjoying ourselves` on our night out at the pubs.

Maybe we should all carry canisters of the neutralising products strapped to our backs that give off a puff every 20 seconds or so.

Maybe the product can be put into our shampoos so that our hair can continue to smell as nice as it did only 30 minutes prior to us venturing into a pub.

Maybe this country should take a leaf out of Canada`s book and have special sections, divided with glass walls, for the smokers to use (anyone been to a Tim Hortons coffee shop?).

I don`t smoke and never have and don`t want to smoke other people`s smoke either!

Jill

Ceramic and Halogen hobs Vs Gas Hob

Just asking people`s opinions of caramic or halogen hobs. Having a new kitchen fitted and need to decide.

I`ve always had a gas hob but hate cleaning the blooming thing. I like the instant heat of gas and the controlability of it so I`ve never changed but I like the idea of easier cleaning of ceramic and halogen hobs.

Any thoughts on this?

Venturer PVS 1223 portable DVD player Argos £39.99

I`ve got one of these on reserve at my local Argos (533/5952) but before I go and buy it can anyone tell me if you can hook it up to a normal TV too?

I was going to buy the cheap Duraband (mini sized) DVD player at around £22 from ASDA for the bedroom but maybe the portable would be more useful.

How tiny and clear is the picture? Thanks,

Jill

RE: Simpsons Spoilt Christmas!

Have they invented a TV with `a 4-way split 200cm screen and 4 headphone sockets` yet??

Maybe when they do we can all have a Merry Christmas!

Simpsons Spoilt Christmas!

I know it`s my own fault for getting married but why do men have to watch every pi**ing episode of the Simpsons they can find on TV?

My husband should be called Homer. Not because he`s a beer swilling couch potato but because he must have some sort of `homing` device that can track down each and every episode on the TV.

Christmas Day

9.20 - 9.55am CH 4 The Simpsons
1.05 - 2.00pm CH 4 The Simpsons again
5.00 - 9.00pm SKY The Simpsons yet again... Back-to-back! (this is the way we slept last night too!!

Is it a man/woman thing? Or is it just me that thinks Christmas time is all about `the whole family`. Good food, fine wine, good game of something (the game this year was `who wants to be a millionaire dvd).

OK, rant over, let`s see if we`re still talking when he gets up this afternoon!

Eastenders Omnibus on Christmas day???

I can`t seem to find this week`s Omnibus episode in the TV guide.

I work 3 evenings a week so usually record it on Sundays and watch it when I have time (still got 3 weeks to catch up on!).

Am I going to have to record each evening episode this week or can someone spot it in the TV guide?

Thanks all,
Jill

Alternatively, next time they are over here they buy a cheap TV & DVD to take back

This is exactly what I did for my sister to be able to watch Eastenders without paying the 3$ per episode on `pay-per-view` in Connecticut. I took a TV/video combi and a DVD player last time I went over.

If you do do this though, don`t forget to buy a voltage converter too (about £20 from Maplin).

Enjoy your holiday!!! ;)
