Just got a Minato G1

Searched just about all Tesco stores to find one of these players and got one tonight.
What a bargain £129 for multiregion, MP3, VCD and i am quite impressed with the sound and visual quality.

I almost got the Alba DVD103 but with Tesco`s no quibble return policy it made my mind up for me

Hey Creative,
Does the Minato have the `optical audio out` for the Dolby Digital or just a normal phono jack?

The `Total DVD` magazine review makes no mention of an optical digital out connection, only a coaxial one (better in my opinion anyway !)

As Creative and a few others have said, the Minato G1 is a cracker for the price. One query though: a few people have said that the machine plays VCD. I have one VCD (came with a David Bowie box-set - 4 audio tracks and vid. for `Ashes to Ashes) and I`ve tried to play it several times without success. Firstly, is this the same type of VCD that everyone else is referring to? Is there are a trick you can do on the remote? Or do you need to fiddle with the macro? It`s not a great issue and doesn`t affect my feelings for the machine, but it`d be nice to make use of all the machine`s capabilities.

BTW: Has anyone come up against the 28 times hack brick wall with a G1 yet or was it just propaganda?

Are you sure it is a VCD?

If it plays the 4 audio track in a CD player then its not a VCD.

The video is only playable on a computer.

Hi MicoMan,

It`s a strange one. Says VCD on the cover but as I said it has 3 tracks of audio and then track 4 is audio and video of Ashes to Ashes. The boxed set came out in the early 1990`s - so very much pre-DVD. I can see why most DVDs would read it as a CD. I just thought if there was a chance of it playing on the Minato, it was worth pursuing. I`ll try a friend`s PC.

Thanks for the input,

DD
