RE: Just got a Minato G1

Hi MicoMan,

It`s a strange one. Says VCD on the cover but as I said it has 3 tracks of audio and then track 4 is audio and video of Ashes to Ashes. The boxed set came out in the early 1990`s - so very much pre-DVD. I can see why most DVDs would read it as a CD. I just thought if there was a chance of it playing on the Minato, it was worth pursuing. I`ll try a friend`s PC.

Thanks for the input,

DD

RE: Just got a Minato G1

As Creative and a few others have said, the Minato G1 is a cracker for the price. One query though: a few people have said that the machine plays VCD. I have one VCD (came with a David Bowie box-set - 4 audio tracks and vid. for `Ashes to Ashes) and I`ve tried to play it several times without success. Firstly, is this the same type of VCD that everyone else is referring to? Is there are a trick you can do on the remote? Or do you need to fiddle with the macro? It`s not a great issue and doesn`t affect my feelings for the machine, but it`d be nice to make use of all the machine`s capabilities.

BTW: Has anyone come up against the 28 times hack brick wall with a G1 yet or was it just propaganda?

RE: Whats the cheapest multiregion DVD player ?

I`d add my voice to those singing the praises of the Minato G1. I paid £129 for mine (it`s cheaper still now) and consider it excellent value at that price. Excellent picture/sound worthy of far greater outlay, plus all the splendid features outlined elsewhere. Only drawbacks are that it looks as cheap as it is and sometimes has difficulty with extreme contrasts of light source and background which can lead to mild streaking. That aside, it`s a great machine which seems to be more reliable than other slightly more expensive bargains and I`d thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking to spend a little over a ton. And it`s dead easy to hack too!

Which reminds me, has anyone discovered if the hack is limited?
