Page 1 of DVD-RAM to DVD-R?

Hi All.

Is it possible to copy recordings made on DVD-RAM over to DVD-R using a PC and a DVD drive that reads DVD-RAM discs? Is it as simple as copying any other disc format using Nero?

Not quite so simple, because the -RAM recorder uses the `.vro format to store. It`s basically an .mpeg and most video editors, convertors will be able to read it, but you will need to re-author the DVD.

However, being I`m a bit dim, I`m slightly confused by the second posting in the thread you highlight - the respondent said (I think?) they were able to successfully use Nero for the copy... but I`m probably missing something essential here. It will probably make obvious sense when I try it for myself - just waiting for a drive for my PC that will read DVD-RAM! ;)

I can recommend the Pioneer 107 DVD burner for reading DVD-RAM on the PC. That`s what I use and then TMPEG DVD Author to import the VRO files and author the finished DVD-R. The imported video includes any chapter edits I`ve created on my Panansonic E55. Works a treat!

Thats interesting as I`ve got it`s predecessor (the 105) and that won`t handle ROM discs, neither will my NEC2500A...I do have a cheap DVD ROM only drive that reads them though if I ever need to read one.

Yeah, my 108 reads RAM too :-)

Not that I`ve got any use for that relatively unsupported format.... lights touchpaper.... ;-)

Thanks for the continued advice peeps - didn`t know Pioneer drives are compatible with DVD-RAM (must do more research in future :/ ). Had been bidding on an LG GSA-4082B over on eBay... just found I`ve won it for £22.00!! 8)

Once its installed I`ll have a go at copying my `edited` DVD-RAM discs to DVR-R...

Sounds good. The ability of the 107/108 (actually I think the 106 could also) to read DVD-Ram is not particularly well publicised. I think I first saw it mentioned on SVP`s website. Although I remember finding an LG model (I`m sure it`s the one you have bought) which can write to DVD-Ram as well as all the other formats.

If your original ram recordings have been made with a panny dvd recorder (e50/55 for example) a cheap way of doing this is to edit the disc then play it back to the recorder through a panny player (the s35 is available for £50 or less). Works every time unlike just about any computer based solution where I can guarantee you will have some compatability/ recoding problem to mess things up.
