Looked at the directory structure of a disc I`ve just burned and it has the video and audio folders there. It`s version 6, shipped with a new drive I`ve installed, must be a more recent version than the version 6 I have been using? Didn`y help that the screen shots in the help file showed the video_ts and audio template I was used to...

Nero Express: missing video_ts folder template

Hi,

I`, probably being dim but can someone please advise me re an issue I`m having with Nero Express v6?

I had previously used Nero without any difficulties to burn DVD-Video Files. Clicking on the `DVD-Video Files` at the `What would you like to burn?` screen took me to the template, containing the video_ts and video_audio folders. I`d just drop the video files into the video_ts folder and burn away.

I`ve now changed my PC and installed Nero Express again - but navigating to the same screen does not show the video_ts and audio folders.

I`ve specified the recorders ets but can`t get the template to show.

What am I doing wrong?

Yes, SJ`s right on both counts - go to http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/index.html and download TMPGEnc DVD Author. I downloaded this on advice from members of this `ere forum and I`ve found it invaluable for editing from DVD-RAM. As well as allowing you to burn to DVD-R, etc it has some basic editing functions (for trimming progs, removing adverts, etc) and you can create menus.

RE: Another DMRE55 owner looking for some help

Hi, I have the Panny E50. I had lots of problems with various maked of DVD-R`s. I haven`t tried the Ritek discs but I think others on this forum have posted they use these without probs. I use Panasonic branded discs (both DVD-R and DVD-RAM) and haven`t had a dud or a glitch to date! :)

I have an LG drive in the PC that reads DVD-RAM. I just tried to get DVD Shrink to read a RAM disc but it didn`t want to know... however, it might if the video files are renamed .vob. However, like many others here I regularly use TMPEG DVD Author to edit my RAM recordings (take out the ads, etc) and then burn to DVD-R. This can be found on the internet. I used it free for a 30 day trial and then took up the option to buy it on line. Its a good programme! 8)

I have an Panny E50 machine - I used the Packard Bell DVD`s initially, simply because I had them to hand for use with the PC. However, I found them unreliable when used in the E50. I have edited on the PC from the Panny DVD-R and RAM discs without too many difficulties using a number of programmes, most notably Pinnacle Studio 8 and TMPEGEnc DVD Author. Some files have been reluctant to import into DVD Author fom RAM discs, but I usually have been able to get around this by copying the .VRO file directly to the hard drive first.

Following advice received from this very helpful forum, I have been happily editing TV progs recorded onto DVD-RAM on my PC using TMPEGEnc DVD Author, and then burning to DVD-R.

However, I`ve had a few error messages when trying to import some recordings from RAM into DVD Author. Some recordings won`t import with the message stating somthing the file can`t contain a mixture of MPEG 1 and 2, or 4:3 and 16:9 formats, they all have to be the same. I`m a bit mystefied by this. The advanced help recommends switching off advanced VBR options on the recorder. My Panny E50 can swith off automatic VBR... would this help? If so, are there any disadvantages in doing this?

DVD Author read the .vob file from DVD-RAM without the need to rename it - great! :)

However, whilst it listed all the seperate programmes I`d recorded, it wouldn`t process the first when I asked it to - it said the file had to be compatible, i.e. not a mixture of MPEG1 and MPEG2 and/or 4:3 and widescreen. Don`t know why it should have said this, maybe the clip was too short (about 2 mins)? All other files from a few discs were fine, managed to burn to a DVD-RW too! 8)

Quick update... managed to do pretty much everything so far, expect try reading files directly into TMPEG DVD Author from DVD-RAM. Renaming .vob files as .mpg didn`t work... XP still said they were .vob files. However, using the advice gleaned from this forum, I successfully used DVD2AVI and TMPEG Genc to convert clips captured from .vob files using DVD Author to mpg2 which could then be successfully imported by Studio 8! Great!!! :)

I`ll have a go at DVD-RAM files this evening...

The main reason I want to convert .vob is to utilise a few clips within my own films. The software editor I use (Pinnacle Studio 8) won`t import .vob files so I need to recode them in a format it will happily read.

So far so good - have fitted the LG drive and checked it reads DVD-RAM OK, downloaded a trial version of TMPGEnc DVD and had a play with it using .vob files from DVD-R...

Couple of questions before I try DVD-RAM please:

1. Should I simply rename the extension to `create` a .vob file (having just copied the entire contents of the disk to the hard drive?

2. Is it possible to convert .vob files to mpeg2 or avi formats?

Thanks for the continued advice peeps - didn`t know Pioneer drives are compatible with DVD-RAM (must do more research in future :/ ). Had been bidding on an LG GSA-4082B over on eBay... just found I`ve won it for £22.00!! 8)

Once its installed I`ll have a go at copying my `edited` DVD-RAM discs to DVR-R...

DVD-RAM to DVD-R?

Hi All.

Is it possible to copy recordings made on DVD-RAM over to DVD-R using a PC and a DVD drive that reads DVD-RAM discs? Is it as simple as copying any other disc format using Nero?

Might have been a spolied RAM disc - tried it with a fresh `un and recorded without any problems. Time will no doubt tell... :/

Argh!!!!!! Whilst recording to Panasonic DVD-R`s seems fine now, a two hour recording to a Panasonic DVD-RAM resultes in glitches+++ during the last 15 minutes!!!! Is this likely to be a faulty disc or have I just got a duff machine???? :(

I have a Panasonic E50 and have had some problems with it (see thread `Panasonic E50 Problems`). Since switching to Panasonic branded DVD-R`s recording has been fine. However, used a Panasonic DVD-RAM disc to record two hour programme at the weekend. Watched it tonight and it was fine until the last 15 minutes when glitches++ made themselves known. In theory there are lots of advantages to recording to DVD-RAM (as long as they are played back on Panasonic DVD). This might have been a rogue disc - will try some more to find out for sure. Alternatively I might just have a duff machine...

Hmm, carried on recording a two part TV documentary I`d started on a Packard Bell DVD-R. After a total of 1 hour 35 minutes it started playing up and eventually ground to a halt with the recorder showing a `U99` error again... :( Recorded from VHS onto a Panasonic DVD-R for the best part of 2 hours afterwards and all went fine :) Strange, eh? :/

Good news, a two hour recording made using the timer worked fine when using one of the Panasonic branded DVD-R`S!!! 8) These have a definate dark hue to them, so I guess they might be rich in the dye you describe Chris? Either way, I`m happy again! :D Just got to find a cheaper source of reliable discs before I begin to transfer the miles of VCR recordings I have made over the decades... :/

Tried recording using the timer for 1 hour 58 mins using a DVD-RAM and all worked perfectly. Have just bought some Panasonic branded DVD-R`s, will see if using these sorts the problem. Let`s hope so! ;)

Panasonic DMR-E50 Problems

Hi, wonder if anyone can help?

I have a Panasonic DMR-E50 DVD recorder. Since acquiring ownership, this machine has had to be returned twice to Panasonic because of problems. First, the machine locked up completely. Returned from Panasonic with a report that the problem had been because of a `dirty dic`. However, on setting the machine up again, straight back from repair, it failed to work again! Back to Panasonic, this time it needed a new RAM unit fitting.

All seemed to be well on return this time, good quality recordings on Packard Bell DVD-R discs. However, a couple of recordings using the timer have recently failed. In both cases I used the SP mode. For example, today I set the recording time for 1 hour 59 minutes, the timer confirmed the amount of space available was `OK` (the disc was straight out the box and unused). However, after 1 hour 45 minutes the recording went all blocky, froze, and the unit went into U99 error mode. The machine recovered after I switched it on and off (as per the manual). On checking the timer it had inserted the `!` code, used to show `insufficient space` on the disc...

What is going on? Have I just got a duff unit or should I be trying a different make of DVD-R?

At this rate I`ll be reinstalling my VCR recorder... ;-(
