Which remote control?

bigfan (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 4th January 2004, 03:21

I have:

[*]Panasonic Widescreen TV
[*]Sony Amp
[*]Sony CD Player
[*]Pioneer DVD Player
[*]Pioneer Freeview Box
[*]Sony Minidisc Deck
[*]Sony Tuner

I am strongly considering buying an all in one remote as it is becoming a pain to switch between so many controls at once. The priorities are the CD player, amp, TV, DVD and freeview. MD and tuner are nonetheless essential items but I can get by without an all in one remote to control them.

Any suggestions?

I use a One-For-All Kameleon 6 to control TV, Sky+, 2 VCR & DVD. It has an impressive compatibility range for all types of equipment, and a learning mode so will copy an original RC. Got it for £40 on Ebay, about half the price of high street shops.

Cheers.

I`ll look into both of those models.

I prefer the Philips Pronto myself. Much more features.
Check out http://www.remotecentral.com for more remote control options.

Well the Pronto looks quite nice but it`s a bit pricey for me. Generally looking for something maximum £50.

Thanks anyway

Ordered in Kameleon 6 remote for straight £50 including delivery. There were a few on eBay for a little bit less but they still had 6 days to go!

Had a play with it in Curry`s before I bought it though, and it seems very nice. I can see it being an item I won`t be able to do without.

Remote is very nice, works a treat with everything but my FreeView.

I`ve had to program in every single button manually for the FreeView (Pioneer box) as it doesn`t have an automatic code for it. Hopefully this is just because it`s a new item and hasn`t been added to the code database yet. I`m going to email them about it shortly to see what they can do. You can only save 50 manual codes and I have sadly used them up.

But apart from that it`s great. The fact that it all lights up is the best, as some of my remotes aren`t the most ergonomic and seeing them in the dark while watching a DVD is a pain.

Thanks to all who contributed by the way, much appreciated.

Does yours make a buzzing noise when operating?
