Page 1 of TOSHIBA SD220E PROBLEM
Hardware Forum
Can anyone please help? I`m now the world`s worst daddy cos Santa (yours truly
) brought my daughter Finding Nemo (Region 1) and, although my SD220E was bought pre-chipped as multiregion, I can`t get the blasted disc to play!!!! Before my child leaves home in disgust, can someone tell me what I`m doing wrong (or not doing, as the case may be)...
Yours in desperation,
BADDADDY
Try going to the picture / video set-up option and change from AUTO to PAL or Vice Versa. I am not sure if that will cure the problem but it is all I can think of at present.

Thanks for that but already tried it--doesn`t work. Have played non-Region 2 discs before on the player and had no problem. No fault with the disc, cos it plays on my pc fine. Can only assume there`s something wrong with my player--looks like a call to Richer Sounds helpline tomorrow!
Cheers anyway!

I forgot to mention this.
Try downloading the software/firmware update that enables Multi-region.
You can find it by searching this site http://www.dvdrhelp.com . I used this update for the firmware and managed to watch R1 discs but I had to re-apply the patch for some unknown reason about a year after originally applying it.
If you cannot find it I will e-mail you it if you want as it is only 2 meg. The original Zip file will be a bit smaller but TBH I have not got a scooby where I saved it . If I find it I would mail that.
If you do get it remember to do EXACTLY what it says on the tin :) as burning the disc in the wrong way will not work. I think it has something to do with BIN or CUE files.

Just had a look and the page you want is http://sd220e.chez.tiscali.fr/
The RAR file is only .99 meg so that should not take too long. Sorry to labour the point but make sure you read the READ ME file included in the RAR file. sd220e.rar

RE: TOSHIBA SD220E PROBLEM
The one from chez was corrupt as of about a month ago (wouldn`t unpack IIRC) - i`ve got a full copy stashed away somewhere if need be - I haven`t used used it myself as mine was already done, so I can`t confirm it does the business...
If you need it drop me a line... my email address contains "ngspamtrap" and "@btinternet.com" (work it out) - the archive (RARd) is 1003k
You need a CD writer to be able to create the hack disc though.

Sorry about the link but here is another one to try.

To Choagy & Colin Wilson---
Thanks for your offers of help--apologies for not getting back to you both sooner. Have decided to confront Richer Sounds about this--the player clearly has not been chipped to multi-region despite my paying a £30 premium for it when I bought it from them--I think the resolution of my problem rests in their hands (ie they re-programme it or supply me with a new/replacement player)--I don`t see why I should have to actually do anything, as the fault is theirs initially. (good job I`m fairly well up on the Sale of Goods Act legislation!!!).
Once again, many thanks for the advice--your quick responses have rekindled my belief in the generosity of my fellow man!

In your earlier post you stated that you have played non region 2 discs before so clearly it "had" been multi region chipped.
You never explained fully why it wouldn`t play....disc error? loading error? no pic/sound?
You also must understand a PC will play just about any disc put in it whereas a DVD player is much more "sensitive"
While I`m sure RS will sort you out another player I would take along the Nemo disc to try out instore just to be safe.
Good luck.
