Sky+ installation charge

mortal (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 22nd October 2003, 18:21

Does anyone know what the installation involves? I am thinking of upgrading under skys latest offer. Do you get a new LNB? I don`t really fancy paying £50 installaion if it just involves plugging in the sky + digibox

thanks

It`s a new LNB - because you need 2 inputs for the box - one is for your regular viewing, and the other for recording (the Sky+ box essentially is 2 receivers in one box).

They generally install a quad LNB (but only use 2 connections). They will also need to run another cable from the LNB to the new box along side the existing cable. Plus they`ll then call up, register it and get all your Sky+ stuff activated.

You won`t regret it! The recording and live pause functions are fantastic - you`ll never use your video again :D

I think it is still the case that if you book online , the installation is only £1.

Just had mine fitted it is fantastic book online only and pay £200.
They repace the LNB unit and run another cable so you have two seperate feeds .
As of next mth they are saving there will be a download to the sy box which will allow you to record 2 channels and watch another.
The whole unit is brilliant ask Phellings he has been extolling the virtues of Sky + for ages and he was right.

Whatever you do , do not book over the phone as you charged £250 and the cost of the 0870 number

I really wish Sky made just a receiver that could record 2 channels. The annoying thing is I have a harddisk recorder (Panasonic DMR-HS2) which revolutionised the way I watch telly. Have been toying around with the idea of going for Sky+ but really fear that my harddisk recorder will become redundant :/ . If they are going to make it so that Sky+ can record 2 channels whilst watching another one then I`m well and truly done for!!!!! Reason being I thought I could at least employ my harddisk recorder for that. Sky certainly know how to corner a market.

I agree - Sky+ is excellent, but I find the hard drive fills up pretty quickly, as I never seem to have time to sit down and catch up on the stuff I recorded.
The hard drive will hold about 20 hours worth of recording, and if the original signal had a 5.1 soundtrack, so will the recording.
Just one slight irritation - I wonder if anyone else finds this. When I tune to Sky Premier 1,2 or 3, sometimes it takes a minute or two for the sound to appear, whether or not it`s a Dolby Digital signal.
