Advice Needed - ACOUSTIC ENERGY AEGO P5

bogstandard (Competent) posted this on Monday, 29th September 2003, 18:31

Superfi have got the above on sale (refurbed) for a decent price.
What I wanna know is will it sound good as both a home cinema amp and (using my sony CD) a HiFi?
If not can anyone recommend a similar setup (or better)?
Interested in reclaiming some of the room taken up by my giant eltax speakers. ;)

I`ve got this set and the sound is astonishing. It really is fantastic. The processor does a great job and the surround separation is spot on. You will never believe the sound is coming from those speakers. In fact I reckon you could have both set up and few people would be able to tell which speakers were producing the sound!
The price is good `cos I think they`re bringing a replacement out in a few months basically with DPLII so if you`re not too bothered about that go for it. Look the business in white too.
I haven`t regretted it for one minute.

I got mine from Superfi too (not the refurb) and had no complaints.

EDIT: In fact see what Westy thinks of them here..

Anyone running just the speakers? What amp/receiver are you using and what do you think? Are each of the sats independent, i.e. do you have to set them up separately like you do a normal sub-sat system, or is it all just plug and play preset, to where you just hook it up, turn it on, and position your speakers where you want them with no fiddling with the speaker placement settings on the amp/receiver?
Cheers.

You can`t just plug the speakers into any amp.
As it is the speakers are separate and all go into the active sub. You can adjust the levels independently. I think a few who visit here operate 3 sets of the Aego2`s - the same speakers - but in a 6.1 arrangement. Not sure how it`s wired but Westy has explained it before here.

EDIT: here..

I was going to buy one of these but got 3 aego 2`s and a Marantz 4300(£200 from Richer Sounds) .Dolby 6.1 for the same sort of money as a P5 setup and it`s a lot more flexible. I added a MJ Acoustics sub a little later, adding a lot more bottom end clout.
