Aiwa shite

MaxC (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 20th January 2001, 14:08

I saw great things said about the Aiwa 370 on here some weeks back I decided to get one and drove miles to a Comet store that actually had one in stock.
After a week I started to get noise from the drive mechanism (although it was working OK otherwise). Took it back to Comet and after a long argument with the salesman ended up keeping it. After about another week (and with hardly any use) the picture kept stuttering (stoping for a very short time and then starting again). Anyway, I decided to get a refund at that point, so another long drive to Comet.

I have now got an Encore and let me tell you that the picture is NO WORSE than the Aiwa. All of you who can`t get an Aiwa - don`t panic, get an Encore instead, you`re not missing anything.

i agree with your sentiments on the aiwa, after all that has been said on this site i tracked one down and bought it, i returned it a few days later because the picture and sound quality was not up to scratch on the lecson900 that i had in the first place . so i bought another one

the sad truth is that there has been so much hype on this site that people are frothing at the mouth to get one, i would recommend an in- store trial before anyone buys. if the store has any kind of customer service they will not mind.

Yup, I agree with the both of you.

I actually bought an Aiwa not knowing about all the hype (I hadn`t seen this site at that point). The picture had colour bands across it.
I returned it and bought another - picture was fine, but it wouldn`t play MP3`s (the first one did....) and come to think of it the drive was pretty noisy. That one went back and I got a refund.

I have since been wanting to get another player. I had a look at a Scan (owned by a friend of a friend) and, believe me, there is nothing wrong with the picture on the Scan. It is excellent (tested on `Das Boot` DVD which has loads of dark scenes). I`m just wary about buying one because of all the adverse comments about Scan customer service and the apparent 1-in-20 return rate. Maybe I should consider the Encore.

Summary of this thread is - We have 3 faulty aiwa players - As admitted by all of you.

You really cannot judge a player in its true light when it is actually faulty to start with. All this thread can prove is a problem with aiwa`s quality control and even then we are talking about 3 players out of how many sold in the UK ? The very fact that everywhere is out of stocks suggests lots and lots.

You are certainly entitled to a grumble if you have had faulty players and I am glad that you are pleased with your new ones but please don`t think you speak for a perfectly good model of the xd dv370.

NB If you buy a scan and it goes wrong think very carefully about why you came to this forum in the first place.

You can`t go wrong with a Pioneer, Panasonic,
Sony or Toshiba (certain models) Do some
homework. SEE demos. Bargain models are
a gamble and you really get what you pay for.
I`ve never had problems with mine, but if I tell
you that this would be a biased thread. You
decide.

Great to hear from you guys!

But still, if I would have bought a faulty Sony, Philips or even Pioneer should I say that these brands are s***E (as u put it) as well??

I still believe that it`s a good player.
Most users are very happy with it.

MaxC just because you had bad experiences with Comet doesn`t mean that it`s all Aiwa`s fault.

And Bernie, I can understand your opinion (because u had two faulty players). But what I can`t understand is why you would go for the Scan (haven`t got anything against the machine or its owners), if u have seen how much problems people have had with this player.

So shoudn`t all these people say that it`s a s***E player as well??

Ah well, everyone has the right for their own opinion.

Did I hear someone here saying the Pioneer are s***?????

Well I have a Pioneer 636 and it a fantastic player.

But I cant judge the Awia DVD player as I not seen one so I can judge it.
But I would of though Awia would be a good player as I know some of there VCR are pretty good as my mate got one. But I dont. I normally stick to brand names EG Pioneer and the lovely Panasonic Widescreen TV hee hee :oÞ

How come I was thrown of for saying the scan was crap....OK I admit I did say it several hundred times........BUT STILL IT WASNT FAIR!

All the brand names make good machines .....I mean they have been in buisness long enough........forget the jack of all trades master of none mentality and you will end up a satisfied dvd user buy a brand name, the prices aint that far apart from the unbranded problem machines you all seem to crave, why you do I will never know!

I bought an AIWA just before Christmas...not a single problem, great picture and sound. A mate of mine was about to buy a Sony, but saw my AIWA and bought one instead.

Both machines are going great guns, no problems. Plays all DVD`s, VCD`s, CRD/W`s, and MP3`s that we have thrown at them. No drive noise, no dodgy LED indicator, no jitter, in fact perfect!!

I know we all love our own players, but I really do think it`s time we all agree NOT TO SLAG EACH OTHERS MACHINES OFF ANYMORE. If you have a faulty machine it doesn`t reflect on ALL the machines in that model.

Let`s try to be constructive from now on guys....PLEEEEEEEESSE

WELL SAID!!!!!

At last some had said it. I started to get sick of people slagging each other dvd player off. We all have our own views. but hey what can be 100 percent perfect. NOTHING. But I still think Scan are not to the standard like they should be as yet. So they are still in the bad books
