28" Widescreen TVs

Neil Martin (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 11th June 2003, 10:27

Bloody hell, but this has been difficult.

I have been through forums and magazines trying to find the best widescreen TV I can get for £400. Picture and connectivity are imprtant, sound isn`t as I have a nice little home cinema set-up.

I have narrowed it down to three:

Sony KV28LS35S
Panasonic TX28PL1
Philips 28PW6006

What do you all reckon?

I was also tempted by the JVC AV28WFT1EKS, but that doesn`t seem to be available anymore. Can anyone tell me whats happened here? Ifit has been updated, what is the equivalent model, and is it any good?

Many thanks to everyone.

Go for the JVC AV28T25EKS for less than £400 or the AV28R25EKS for around £470.
Difference between the T and R in the model designation is Dolby surround sound and a subwoofer on the R as opposed to normal nicam and no sub on the T.
My mate has the T. I have the R.
The difference in sound is very noticeable, but if you already have surround sound then I suppose there`s little point in spending the extra on the `R` model.

(Note that if you go for the `R` model you will have to spend another £40 on the optional JVC SPR100 rear speakers to achive true surround sound, but you can do without those for long enough)

I have the Sony, and I love it to bits. Was tempted by a JVC (can`t remember which model) but I got a better deal on the Sony. Flatscreen and widescreen changed my life, I can hardly bear to look at other people`s TVs now ;-)

I agree with Pistol - I got the Sony a few months ago and couldn`t be happier with the picture quality. Sound quality (Dolby Prologic simulated) is very good.
I bought mine from John Lewis, who give you a 3-year guarantee, and will match any price locally.
