RE: Is this a scam?
I got a message tonight (whilst in the gents at the pub!) from an unknown mobile number saying `hey, you fancy a date?` :) thinking my luck was in, and the tasty brunette at the bar must have got my number off a mate i continued.....`if so just call 089.....` d`oh. :( maybe next time.....
RE: What do you recommend- Sony T610 or Nokia 7250i
Don`t let being a nokia user put you off the t610. I am the worlds biggest nokia fan, and have tried about 6 non-nokia phones all of which i have hated. The T610 was my last go and i have to say it is fantastic. I would go for the T610 over the 7250i anyday.
RE: Which is the best place to get hold of US dollars(Notes) ?
Post Office is definately the best place to get the money. Note : Exchange rates are not the same everywhere, lots of places offer `commission free` money, but give you less $ to your £ to make up for it. It may be worth checking your own bank as well, as they often do comission free for account holders, but that said I have always found the post office offer a better rate than them anyway!
RE: Boots christmas magazine blunder
no way is that a paper bag...it looks more like a smudged bit of chocolate :)
RE: Best Loans?
Tesco are doing 6.2% at the moment, i have a loan with them and can report no problems at all.
RE: Jodie Morris charged with Rape...
Earlier on they said that Jermaine Pennant had been arrested by police too. Then the BBC hastily dropped his name from subsequent bulletins
Jonathan Creek Boxset
The boxset can be preordered from play for £32.99....but they haven`t noticed that it is not the £39.99 12 hour set that was due to be released earlier this year, but is now a 22 hour set RRP of 59.99. I have preordered, i don`t know if play will honor the price or not, but i reckon there is a good saving to be had here. :D
RE: What happened to the Johnathan Creek boxset?
Stanz, you need to recheck your tiings! The original release that was canceled last year was only 12hours, the boxset now scheduled for feb is in fact over 22 hours - look here for details... In fact, as you can see from play, the original RRP was 39.99 rather than the 59.99 it has now gone up to - as pay still have it to pre-order for 39.99 methinks this should go in the bargin buckets thread immediately - will they honor that price when they release that the new version of the boxset is longer and more expensive??

RE: So IS there a Hairy Santa Claus?
talking of people falling for hoaxes, just seen this on the bbc website. I guess as long as one falls for it every now and then it justifys sending `em to people like me who just bin `em straight away. How can you fall for it? :/
RE: Where`s the best place to sell your old PC?
Try Loot or a similar free ads type paper - alternatively if you are near a uni you might want to stick some posters up around the place - students are often after cheap second hand pcs when they start uni...
RE: To all the legal eagles out there
Don`t know about the technicalities, but I always thought that you had a case if the goods could reasonably be expected to last longer in normal use. So if it packs up after 18 months and you haven`t been using it underwater or something mad, then you could demand a replacement.
RE: Water coolers
Thanks for the comments people, i don`t have an overclocked system, but unfortunately my computer lives in a fairly warm spare room (with the central heating tank) and it has trouble cooling itself (as there is a high ambient temperature), occasionaly overheating and shutting down. I was hoping a water cooling system may overcome this..

RE: Blocked phone sim
On orange, you can call customer services from a landline phone, and they will be able to unlock it for you after probing you with questions for about an hour to confirm your identity. When it happened to me they asked about recent calls i had made etc. I would assume the same applies for other networks. Orange customer services can be reached on 07973 100123 or if you want to get through for nothing, call 0800 801080 then option 3,2 (i think) that basically gets you through to customer services!

RE: What happened to the Johnathan Creek boxset?
New release date of Feb 2nd 2004..... :D
RE: Strange PC startup error, can someone please help asap?
seems like you are overheating - it may just need to cool down, but it could be an early warning that the fan is not working properly - i would keep an eye on it and maybe replace the cooling system othwise your chip could fry. Alternatively, you may be able to increase the temp that the alarm sounds at, overiding the problem, but again if it is overheating you will end up frying the CPU
Latest Phone Menace
First we had the automated dialling systems that hang up on you when you answer the phone, if there is not annoying tw*t available in the call centre to try and sell you a new bathroom, and now the latest mennace has arrived....the recorded message! :/
Had my first experience last week when i got in from work to find the old answermachine flashing, only to dicover the message was trying to sell me a vacation in florida, and was just a recorded message that went on for about 10 minutes! Anyway, had a good laugh and deleted it. Today the phone rang and i answered it to hear (in a broad american accent) "Hi, how would like to experience disneyland....... " so i hang up, but it doen`t cut him off - he is still there when i pick the phone up! so i hang up again - the damn phone rings back, its still him.. damn you BT, get him off my phone line >:( >:(
Anyone else had a call from him yet?

RE: Do I need a Visa to holiday in the USA?
Quote:
Yes, short answer
Yes, wrong answer - you don`t need a visa to go to the USA unless you planning on staying for more than 90 days or working there etc. The same goes for canada, except holders of passports endorsed 'British Subjects' and 'British Protected Persons', who do require a visa. Otherwise you just fill in the visa waiver card as mentioned above - they give `em to you on the plane. If you are still unclear, have a look at this page on expedia.or this page on the canadian high commission in the uk website ;)

RE: Small dent side of car,
When i saw the thread title i immediately thought of Father Ted - you could always try a small hammer :D
"oh no, i`ve tapped it to far, i`ll just tap it back a bit..... thought i had it there a mnute ago....no we can`t give that away in a raffle.."
RE: Digital Cameras - Help, Pixels or Optical zoom.
I have just ordered the pentax :D You can get it for £350 at amazon, and for the amount of 10x zooming i am likely to do, i would rather have the higher resolution. Also, the Pentax has loads more features than the minolta, it really depends on what you are wanting to do with it.
RE: Has anyone on here tried the Atkins diet?
Been doing it for about 3 weeks, lost just over a stone so far. You have to be careful though or you put it all back on again, but my advice would be get down to your target weight, and then eat a sensible healthy diet and you will be fine. You can always go back onto it for a couple of weeks if you need to. The way i see it is that it can be no worse for the body than being overwight! :/
RE: Where to buy a new computer
I just bought a decent system form Aria, and no complaints with it at all. Would recommend them. :)
RE: MP3 quandary - which do I go for?
The Zen is too big and becomes a hassle to carry it around after a while, i had one and flogged it on ebay a while ago. Whilst the ipod is by far the best looking, you definately pay for that design quality. There are several other options on the market, and some websites are exclusive e-tailers for various devices that are a bit more robust, and a lot cheaper. Have a look at DAP REVIEW and see what other models are about. The thing with the ipod is that it spends half its life in your pocket where no-one can see it anyway. . . . . ;) I am back to the trusty minidisc player whilst i make a final decision .... 8)

RE: Mario kart of F-zero
Mario Kart anyday...Mario Kart on the N64 was incredible, i am going to be buying a game cube just to get that one game ASAP. It was the ultimate uni game, with us and the guys in the house next door playing it non-stop for over 10 hours (in a tag-team loser goes off type setup) I can`t wait.... :D
RE: Pheonix Nights Vol 1 and 2 only £14.99
