If I was thinking of buying a surround sound system what would you recommend ? What`s the difference between 5.1 and 6.1 ?? One more speaker ? Or is DTS the best options ? Or is DTS mark 2 coming ?? You know what it`s like when you think you`re away to spend £300 on something that is just SOOOO last week...

DTS, does`nt make an enormous difference but it is still better to have it. As for 6.1 then it depends on your room really, it is supposed to sound better but I could never have it as my room is not big enough. What set up are you looking at Bowf?

Bowf, If you keep worrying about whether it will be out dated you would never end up buying an av amp. I have been using 5.1 Dolby/DTS for nearly 2 years now and i dont have the urge to expand to 6.1. I have also just spent over £1000 on a new av amp which is amplified for 5.1 but can be upgradeable to 6.1 and 7.1 with extra amplification but I dont think i will upgrade. The reason i purchased it is because it does what it should do very well and the £1,000 has gone on pure amplification and sonic gains not gimmicks like thousands of DTS modes etc that I haven't really got time to mess with. Most amps do now have 6.1 discrete and matrixed and all should now have dolby digital and DTS capabilities but you can guarantee that next year 7.1 DTS/THX/ES/ABC/DEF/GHI/JKL ETC will be the rage the year after 7.2, 8.1, 8.2, 9.1 etc, such is the av game I 'm afraid.

think about it the audio can encompass u and circle around the room
so logically the folks at dolby must be working on ceiling and floor positioned speakers ;-)

I doubt we`ll ever see SDDS in the home - sounds great in the cinema, but honestly, do you think you could persuade your other half to have the dozen or so speakers in the living room??

SDDS is only needed because of the big screens isnt it
i thought sdds was basically spliting the centre channel into 3 further channels?
