RE: Dansai DVD-1010 upgrade needed
Yes, I know ... Tescos are out of stock.
However, a kind person on the VCDHelp forums sent me an image of the file. This will enable you to play VCD and SVCD. I hear that it also disables Macrovision, but I haven`t tried it yet.
You need a program like CDRDAO which supports Bin / Cue to write the image to CDR. The instructions will also be written to the disk!
E-mail me and I`ll send it to you: 42opoa[at]moc.xepip.lsd

Get the upgrade for the Dansai 1010 here http://homepage.ntlworld.com/camol121/1010upgrade.zip
Finally worked out why i couldnt get it to work. The way i got it working was to burn using nero, go through all the optionss to create a data disk then go to file, burn image, then choose the cue file, works a treat

Before I go out and buy one of these players, can anyone confirm that the upgrade works, and this player will now do everything. What about macrovision?
RE: Dansai DVD-1010 upgrade needed
With regards to using that ZIP file...
Unzip it to a folder of your choice. You`ve got 2 choices here -
1) Go to www.goldenhawk.com , download CDR-Win and burn the CD (first icon on the left, browse to the .cue file and hit Start)
2) Open the .Bin file using WinImage (www.winimage.com). You`ll see in the Bin file two files - One is the instructions text file and the other is BANK30.ROM
RE Bubblegum... I`ve been reading up on this updated firmware (which I believe is a rip of the updated firmware being sent out by Tesco`s) and I am lead to believe it allows for VCD/SVCD playing and Macrovision disabling. If you open the BANK30.ROM file in Notepad and search for Macrovision, you`ll see a small section with titles like Macrovision AUTO, Macrovision DISABLE. I`m going to try it on one of the players at work tomorrow anyway.
