RE: NEED a hack to Samsung 511 XEF-A play NTSC.
I have a samsung 511 (don`t know about XEF-A) originally Reg 2.
I used the hacks on this website successfully to make it Region Free.
However, when I played a Reg 1 DVD, the picture would be scrambled - the sound was fine.
I went into the setup, and then the Display section.
I changed Quasi-Pal to OFF.
The disc works fine now.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

RE: NEED a hack to Samsung 511 XEF-A play NTSC.
I have just taken delivery of my shiny new 511 and it took the remote hack straight away. It seems to play all of my discs, both R1 and R2 without any problems.
Just one question though. On the Region Hack pages here, it says that the region hack is "temporary". Is this true, cos if so, I`ll try and take it back to get one with unlimited changes.
I`d appreciate any help
PS If you chnge the video output from "scart" to "video", you should also be able to disable macrovision. (I have to go buy a scart lead, so I have not tried this out properly yet - its currently connected through AV`s)

Wedge:
If you use the Thomson 3300 hack on the 511, it`s permanent (i.e. it will survive a power off). Other hacks for the same player may not be permanent.
(The Thomson 3300 hack is this one: http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/info/multiregion/full/thomson3300.asp)
Also, there`s no known way of disabling Macrovision on the 511; you have to use an external Macrovision remover.
