I think there maybe some free way of doing it,but try a search for "Remote Selector" on the web,and for about £20 there is a download that works, and also removes copy protection and user prohibitions, enabling skipping and changing settings where discs would not normally allow.

Why? you work for Packard bell or summat?

To the original poster, 2 things are required:

DVD Genie (region setting program) and RPC 1 firmware for your drive (or is it RPC 2...I never remember). Anyways, the diff on the vesions is one of them is controlled by hardware, the other one is controlling the region change by software, hence DVD Genie.

Go into Device manager and find out what kind of DVD Drive you have. It it lists a "Packard Bell" drive, use the numbers to try to find out the manufacturer. I might be able to help discover the drives original identity if thats the case, but I`d need the model number of the PC.

Once the drive is "flashed" the problem is solved, but in some cases (like my current drive) regionless firmware isnt available, but I did manage to find a firmware that doesnt commit the changes to flash memory, so every time I reboot the PC, it goes back to no region setting and gives me 5 user and 5 vendor changes again.

OK for playback, but a pain in the posterior for decrypting :)

Doesnt work with all drives, and more specifically, works with very few Packard Bell PC drives.

*but* all is not lost...once we identify the manufacturer of the drive involved, a new firmware should be available.

BTW...DVD Region Killer didn`t work for my previous 3 drives, but it does have success with a huge number, so it`s worth a try :)

What the f*** are you on about lily?

If all else fails, try `DVD Region Free`.

It`s software that runs when you run your DVD Player software and needs no `flashing` or firmware upgrade.

DVD Region Free works great for me, plus it`s "free" from Kazaa (Lite). :D
