Pet Insurance

Does anyone else have this.
Purely Pets jacked ours up from 43.17 to 56.73 last November.
Yes I know it's my fault for not keeping on top of it but even so about 30 odd percent increase. 🤔
They'll knock it down a tenner if we reduce the maximum annual claim to 8,000 from 15,000 but there's way cheaper available.
Only problem is I think you're unable to claim for a few months on any new policy with a different company.

Is that a monthly fee... we decided to stop on our two moggies, as it was approaching £250 each a year!

The Pet insurance was more expensive than my household, and my car insurance... I couldn't see how they could justify £25 a month, i know it included an annual check up and cat flu jab, but that was about it!

Yes monthly for a dog.
Vets fees if they get something though are astronomical

I haven't insured my dogs for 26 years, after having my first dog insured for a year at about £8 and then the cost rising to something like £21 after that.

I just figured the excess you pay on everything, it would make more sense to put the money away each month and use that instead...

...which of course I don't do, relying on the fact I can always just find the money if I need it in an emergency. Bar accidents (seem to be lucky avoiding those), by the time they reach the age of the potential expensive stuff the insurance company has excluded everything anyway.

It's a gamble though, just one I'm clearly winning!

I know.
It's like not doing the lottery.

It's a total gamble. My dog (my first one I've had) is 11 now and has been insured for £1500 since I got him when he was 3.

Had a couple of things in his younger years but nothing much but just over 2 years ago he was diagnosed with cancer so since then he's had 2 operations, radiotherapy and CT scans every 3 months and is currently on medication that works out around £10 per day. I'd maxed out the insurance 3 times and have probably paid out around £4000 - £5000 myself in that time but I don't have any kids and so would do anything for him but if I wasn't in a decent financial position it would be a nightmare with having to decide if to get a loan etc.

Obviously other people have dogs with no issues but if you do get hit with things like this the prices are mad and no amount of putting money away each month is going to cover it. I've spoken to other pet owners that have spent way more than I have, the costs escalate very fast!

Whenever I get another dog in the future I'd insure them for a higher amount from the start as you can go down in levels of cover but not up!
