I bet that snake ruptured its sides and died soon after.
Remember seeing a smaller snake in the Oz outback with its sides split open by overeating, at least, that`s what my mates told me.
Most gruesome death I personally have ever seen for a snake, was a massive dead python that stretched right across a singe track road in Malaysia, head in one side of the Jungle and tail in the other, and it had two big ruts in its body where a 13 ton truck* had run over it 
* guessing the weight by rut depth.
