Btw, you can`t libel the dead, hence why this sort of thing can be safely discussed.

Which is also a bit unfair, the allegations may be so old we`ll never know the truth.

Good God, reading that interview with Saville about Gary Glitter, and understanding how he used his charity work to protect his image, so no one felt able to talk about what he was doing....those are classic traits of peodophiles...and I know a case so similar it makes my blood run cold.

I am sick of hearing the older generation say that people shouldn`t be blamed for things they did years ago or we should just brush it under the carpet because of all the good things they`ve done.

CRAP. I`d rather put anyone in prison and let the world know the truth than let them continue their activities a second longer, or let people think they are a great person when they are pure evil.

As for Esther Rantzen, she has just lost all credibility in my eyes. If she was happy to remain silent about him, how many more does she know about???

See I don`t really know much about the Saville claims one way or the other, but I really can`t believe that someone with as high a public profile as Rantzen who was also the public face of Childline can come out now and add to the speculation in that way.

Her credibility is shot to pieces - she preferred her salary to doing to the right thing.

Be honest how many times have you or anyone else protected their job and their liveilyhood, to be able to meet mortgage payments and feed your family, and have to accept some wrongdoing, I bet you have.  

I have, I was on a new hospital job twenty years ago, where the boss made a massive bo bo and would have cost the company their reputation if it was found out about, but it was covered up and eventually sorted on the fly, but as an employee, I along with ten other employees had no choice other than go along with it, or be shown the door for some trumped up reason.

So, You cannot be completly black or white in this world, sometimes you have to be grey to survive.

In Rantzens case she headed a charity and telephone line specifically aimed at protecting (or perceiving to) and helping children who were victims of just such abuse, therefore she has failed utterly in her own duties in that respect not only as the front of such a charity or phoneline, but as a human being.

If the allegations really are true about Saville then I hope there are a fair few people involved in covering it all up that will never sleep soundly at night.

I would agree with you that it is a bad situation, but just think of the money she was making as a TV personality on a lot of TV shows at that time, she would not give that up by upsetting TV bosses , who would. She made the call, she has to live with it.

Just saying for a lot of us when it comes to retaining your income or being totally honest, the former wins the day. its the real world.

At the same time, if Rantzen only heard rumours, that`s not enough to destroy someones life with is it? Obviously now she can safely say she heard rumours, but considering the damage this sort of thing does, I don`t blame her for not saying anything before.
