Just come off my bike.
My own fault. I was flying long the cycle path on the way into work. A momentary lapse of concentration and I had clipped a lamp post. Rather than a slide fall where the forward motion dissipates slowly. I was high sided. And dumped on to the floor and in to some railings. No grazing. But I bloody ache.
Anyway, to the main point of post. I don`t wear a helmet and this time I didn`t hit my head. But next time?
So, can anyone recommend a helmet. It must be light and cool. I can`t stand having stuff on my head when riding. Even last year when I was riding at -15 and beyond the hat would be off by the time I got to work.
So, any thoughts?

glad you`re ok (more or less) helmet saved my life a few years ago.
i was cycling to the train station to go to uni, then I woke up in hospital with my head being x-rayed! I was unconscious for about 45 mins, one side of my face was one big graze! I`ll never know what happened :(
Helmet then was a Metz Bad Boy, I`ve now got a Giro, cost about £50. Any proper cycling shop will have a good selection, and bike mags often review them, like most things, you get what you pay for, more expensive are lighter, better ventilation, and probably look cooler. You need to try them on really as different makes suit different ppl.
they have improved over the years, when I was at school, my parents bought me one, which I took off as soon as I was out of sight of the house, as it was heavy, bulky and uncomfortable.
You get used to it after a while, a couple of times I`ve got to the end of my road, and thought "there`s something missing" and gone back to get it

I was going to head up to the local bike shop this weekend anyway. Time to do what I should done years ago, but have been putting off.

Glad you`re mostly OK :)

Thanks, but I am absolutely fine. I may not be able to walk later, but apart from that, fine.

I don`t think I`ve fallen off my bike since I was a kid, not that I ride much these days, not that when I do ride I do anything remotely dangerous (like riding to work)... I do wear a helmet though.
When I was a kid most of my friends had BMX bikes and once we were having races round the back street roads. I had a Ralleigh Grifter, which wasn`t too bad for that sort of thing but the moment you had to lift it over a small fence it was suddenly incredibly very heavy.
Anyway, after a few races I was taking a break whilst everyone else went off on a dash, and to amuse myself I was riding as slow as I could along the very edge of the kerb going up and down with the driveway entrance dips.
And then somehow, I`m still not entirely sure how, I managed to drop the front wheel off the kerb, fell forward and be heading head first towards the floor with the back end of this very heavy bike following me. Here things get very odd, because I instinctively during the fall time went into a forward roll.
But being a kid who had just done something really stupid and embarassing, during the fall I somehow started to worry about how stupid I looked and came straight out of the forward roll into a one knee`d arms outstretched jazz hand tadaaaaaa. Kind of like Adrian Edmonson at the end of the Bottom titles.
And then my only thought was, oh dear god please tell me someone saw that! And thankfully one person saw it, the older brother of one of my mates marking the start/finish line, who found it very funny.

I like it. It`s my first proper fall/crash in a long time. I get close to the post every day. It`s the line I take. Either scrub off speed or get close. I got close.

Pushing the envelope.
I like it.
Glad you`re OK mate. :)
Yeah, go to a bike shop and see. You can get some decent bargains now too. And some silly priced ones too..
Ste
We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

I just know I will walk in. Be drawn to one. That will be the £200 one. Bastards.
