Page 1 of Fed up with the Pop ups & Pop outs!
General Forum
As it says really! I don`t post much but I`m a very regular lurker. As I`m lurking I don`t always log on, but the pop up comes up EVERY time...is there any way to stop it?The latest pop out from the side (In French) is a double pain....or is it just me getting it.
OK, rant over, have a nice day.
RE: Fed up with the Pop ups & Pop outs!
I`ve seen one, which I got twice, but not since. :/ Are you running anything that blocks tracking cookies? Running in privacy mode? What is the popup advertising? What browser are you using.
(Btw I appreciate the fact you help to contribute to the site costs by not blocking ads!)

I got one of those pop-ins earlier (first time I`d seen it here)...not seen it since though.
Can`t remember what it was advertising.
Using Chrome on the Mac...."privacy mode"??
Accessed the site earlier on on IE9. Some sort of `pop-in` came in from the left. Selecting it gave lots of text in French.
Nothing on FF.

I get that slide-in ad on thw rok PCs, and they have about 500mb of ram each (Dells, crap), rendering them useless until I manage to close the window. I run FF with Adblock. Sorry, but I demand control over what happens on my PC, and intrusive ads aren`t on that lsit

Just got it again, it`s the flash based advert for Continental tyres (that starts with the Brazilian football supporters in the car).
It`s also French based (the close option says "afficher" ;))

Sorry, but I demand control over what happens on my PC, and intrusive ads aren`t on that lsit I don`t think it`s too much to ask to not use an ad blocker for this site.
If we want it to keep going and remain free then it`s only fair RJS gets some funding for it.
EDIT: I should add that I see no harm in a `Flash` blocker - given that Flash is buggy as hell for me and just drains the laptop battery faster!

RE: Fed up with the Pop ups & Pop outs!
I get one appear from the left most times I log in, but you can close it so its really not the end of the world...Don`t seem to get many pop-ups and I don`t think I`ve got any pop up blockers installed.
Ads just don`t bother me, so don`t see the point in blocking them, especially when it helps keep this place free!
RE: Fed up with the Pop ups & Pop outs!
I got one yesterday too. If I click on it, does it get you more money? And not fill my computer with dirty spyware? Also... will I get Rick Rolled? If not, I`ll click it.
I don`t know if clicking on them gets us "more money", blocking them certainly costs us more money! The site doesn`t pay for itself by any means.
I have no problem with people disabling flash on the site so they get regular old fashioned non-flash adverts, especially on lower powered PCs. Something is better than nothing!
It`s simple economics though, if we grew the site community a lot more, then we could show less advertising (heck if it was big enough I`d be happy with one advert per page!).
