Drivers on Arriva Trains Wales are to take fresh strike action next week in a row over pay.
For once it`s not the London Underground.

God, how I wish we could strike and actually make people realise they should be
glad they earn a heap load of money just for directing a train >:(

They may not be striking just for pay. My neighbour used to work on the trains and he told me it used to annoy him how the newspaper would report they were striking for more pay, but in fact they were striking for acceptable working conditions.

Part of that was pay, part of that was acceptable hours, and time off in between shifts etc. Sometimes they were expected to do a 12 hr shift, then have a few hours off before doing nights for a while, then back to days.

That may not sound too bad, until you realise much like lorry drivers, you don`t really want some-one sleep deprived/overworked etc driving a rather large heavy vehicle putting passengers etc at risk.

I hope they do and go through with it. Arriva North West and Wales are a bunch of s***heads and we always had a Micky mouse union back pocket jobbers - they shafted us by pulling sick cover from day one to no pay for 3 days then shafted us with 80% thereafter. They also took our time and a quarter from Saturday work, the list goes on but for a laugh the company wanted us to `work harder` got tired of Arriva and there bulls*** and left last month!!

On a side note, its a little more than directing a train look at the training sessions before they get in the cab NOT that I`m defending them - they are second best treated to management in that s***hole company. For Arriva Wales I think they are on around 40k a year plus overtime maybe.......

My remark about `just driving a train` may have been flippant but 40k a year......... :o

If they`re on that in Wales, I dread to think what they`re on in London...

Which would leave you wondering what the recent Tube drivers were on that were striking cos they weren`t getting triple time AND a day in lieu for Christmas/New Year!

I`ve just started using trains since I changed jobs...here is my experience.

Arriva - 10 trips, stood 7 times, 1 time late & missed my connection, 2 times on time.
First Great Western - 10 trips, stood 4 times, 3 times late, 3 times on time.
No apologies, just a bad attitude from ticket checkers when I sit in "1st class" when no other seats are available.
The costs are equivalent to 25% higher than if I drove, but because of traffic, it works out about 20 mins quicker.

I know it`s not a long time compared to some train users, but it`s s***e start. I don`t know what they earn, but their service is crap.
