Page 1 of Ins & Outs Of Benefits
General Forum
Have split up with the girlfriend and she lives now in Birmingham with the kids. I dont drive, or have a gaff of my own at the moment so am training it up there on weekends to see the kids.
Thing is i have to crash at her place but shes currently out of work and gets all the single parent and job seeker benefits that shes entitled to.
Ive been told that if i stay at the house more than 2 nights a week (planning to go fri-mon) then that counts as coinhabiting and she could lose what she claims. Someone else told me any regular stop over would cost her the benefit.
Anyone here clued up on this that can advise me on the ins and outs. Dont want to cost her money but obviously want top see my children.

Be very careful mate, I live in hotel and ex gf got into bother because i visited her sometimes on days off and had a hell of a time of it proving to them i lived in hotel, nightmare really. Should contact ur local housing association to try and get a flat thru the social when u get rent and coucil tax paid
Basically, the Ins & Outs of Benefits are these...
If you claim them yourself, you are fully entitled to them and merely getting something back for all the years you have (or will) put money into the tax system.
However if someone else claims them, they are a pikey immigrant scumbag who is merely getting pregnant with their 10th child just to get a bit of extra cash.

I suspect that the second piece of advice is more accurate, I don`t think that there is a `two nights per week` rule. You need to get some authoritative advice on this. Check with your local Job Centre and the CAB.
BTW. Your situation sucks and I truly feel very sorry for you, and hope that things improve (in whatever way they can). I am a divorced father with two young daughters, but I am in the fortunate position of having unrestricted access, and the girls spend every weekend with me.
The short version is that they`ve moved to a hou in brum and taken sky and furniture etc cayse id never see kids go without, I`m renting a room in house share and living out of a hod. Want to see kids but don`t want to screw up the money they get
