Page 1 of Stargate Universe

Anyone started watching the new Stargate Universe series on Sky 1?
The others (SG-1 and Atlantis) were great but this takes Stargate to a whole new level, its very Battlestar Galactica dont you think?
Edge of your seat stuff....
I`ve been watching it, but not that impressed so far. Seems to be trying to be `edgy` for the sake of it with some totally gratuitous sex scenes and shots of huge boobs in tight fitting shirts for the lads. Nothing wrong in that in principal, but it smacks of trying too hard. The characters are almost universally unlikeable as well. I`d have stabbed that black soldier in the eye with a pen if he`d tried half of his s*** on me. Only character I really like is Eli, cause he`s a geek. The senator`s daughter took about two seconds to jump into bed with that young soldier, who was doing some other bird in a cupboard in the season opener (and she`s still on the ship as well).
It sort of reminds me of a cross between Voyager and Battlestar, but without getting to know any of the characters before making them act like arseholes. I dunno, maybe it will improve. It`s not like there`s any sci-fi to compete with it now that Terminator: TSCC has been cancelled and all the other shows have ended. Heroes is just boring me now.
SGU isn`t Stargate, which could have been a good thing, but isn`t. At least Begbie is on form and Ming Na is in it occasionally.

i was quite hopefull after the pilot, they seemed to be setting it up with strong charactors & a good story, but i`m very quickly getting bored to death by it :( it feels like they took the worst of the previous stargates & BSG, then decided it might make a good series :/
needs to get going, or it`ll get gone.....

Are the producers trying to compete with Star Trek
I really like it, when I was completely disinterested in the other Stargate options.
Jury is still out here.
I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

I have also enjoyed it more than the other versions, I especially like the slow character build up and the fact that there have been no Alien Attack scenarios in the 1st 4 episodes, being a fan of Carlisle helped (the main reason I picked it up) added to the fact it has taken me by surpise with the pacing of the storyline and how dark it is currently means I will be watching from now on.
Not sure on it yet, not got used to the idea that Carlyle`s character is a complete w***er...
