Out of office

The family Snaps will be slowly basting and frying themselves in Turkey until the 20th.

Please save all compliments, blandishments and offers of unlimited wealth and fame until we return.
The more usual insults and sarcasm can be entered below and yes I have seen Midnight Express.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

My GF and her Sis went to Turkey for a week in July.

They went to Bodrum

Pros :

-Weather was good
-Country was nice
-Some decent nights out had

Cons :

-Room in hotel was not great (and they didnt complain - 1st time abroad naivety)
-The travel company reps meant to meet and introduce them the morning after they arrived (they arrived at like 4am) either didnt show up or were about two days late
-The Turkish men were, shall we say, pervy when it came to English girls (esp blonde ones)

The other gripe was that they werent told to take Euro or GBP. So instead took Turkish Lira
Shops priced things in GBP / Euros and when they asked how much in Turkish Lira the prices seemed to be very much made up and inflated.

(the last point may be worth considering if you didnt already know. If you have Lira already may be worth sitting on it and re-converting it in UK iof you have some zero commission deal and using GBP / Euros when out there)

We were in Turkey for a day recently (did a cruise around the Med and stopped at Kusadesi).

I`d echo Fowler`s comments about the currency. They`re happier taking Euros rather than their own currency (we got stung by taking Turkish Lira). I`d also noticed the blokes being a bit more lecherous (sp?) than the norm.

Get ready to haggle when you are interested in buying, and be ready to say "NO" when you`re not interested. Only start haggling when you really do want to buy.

Other than that, what we saw was a lovely place...especially Ephesus, that was wonderful.

Morning all

Interesting turn of topic in this thread. We`re off t`Egypt on Friday and we can`t work out what to do for the best when it comes to currency. Guide books seem to suggest that you can take no more than Egyptian £1000 in or out of the country (about GBP125), but travel agents say that that is rubbish. We want to do the stuff like some diving, a desert `safari` & Valley of the Kings, etc, but have been told that we`ll get stung using the credit cards for this. Do we take Travellers` Cheques and change them out there? Has anyone been before and is able to give advice?

Shukran in advance :)

Let me check with my mate. He`s been Egypt a few years on the trot I think.

Will let you know if/when he comes back to me
