Jack Cardiff RIP

Mark Oates (Reviewer) posted this on Wednesday, 22nd April 2009, 15:23

Legendary cinematographer and director Jack "JackO`Lantern" Cardiff has passed away at 94. Cardiff`s Technicolor cinematography for Powell and Pressburger was a signature of their films. He was the only photgrapher/cinematographer Marilyn Monroe trusted implicitly to make her look good.

The world will be a less colourful place without him.

I was very sad to hear this earlier. His body of work is amazing and the number of directors who have praised him over the years speaks for itself.

Hadn`t realised he`d directed that many.
Just went onto IMDB to remind myself of the one I knew he`d done which is one of those "Oh, I`ll watch that again" movies whenever it`s on TV. The Dark of the Sun.

Just an all around good film pretty well a model for the likes of Wild Geese and Dogs of War.

If I can make it to 94 and still have all me marbles I`ll call that a result.

Never the less RIP and thanks.
