Rant- Want to know why my bank of 33 years screws me everytime I go 5p over my Limit!!

I have a load of money in one bank account and another empty bank account for rents and things - unfortunately on setting up paypal it would only let me use the latter.

I got charged a paypal fee, which inturn caused my Bank to charge me a reserve fee - WTF is a reserve fee. The great thing is that within two days they charged me two lots of £22. Here`s the doozy - the second charge was delayed and not put onto my account until a month later! so then I got screwed again.

Now i`ve argued with the bank and they`ve taken off all the charges, except another one arrived in my account this morning - no warning, no explanation. I`ve told them that if they don`t get their act together i`m leaving, but the faceless idiot at the bank round the corner, just sat there expressionless (the "I don`t give a Sh*t " Look) and not only that she`s not removing the charge until the bank have reviewed it at their central office!

I`ve now wasted 5 journeys to the bank for their nonsense charges and you would think that a good customer like myself might be given some proper assistance, but no,i`m no-one to them.

I`m not naming the bank, but I can tell you it`s one of the big ones and it`s not:

NatWest
Lloyds/TSB/HBOS
Abbey

But it is Cr*p!!

Rant Over,

Nice to be back

Something begining with B?

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

Well my wife and I are with HSBC (is that who it is?) and I`m getting f***ing sick to death of their terribly inconsistent service. For the first time in about 15 years I`m considering leaving them. Absolute w***ers.

HSBC are spot on as long as you`re a Premier customer. If not, you`re fooked. I hear they`re moving their call centres for all standard accounts over to the Indian script readers soon, after laying off 1500 jobs over here.

HSBC: "yes, you can continue to have the business overdraft this year that you had last year. Here`s your £100 arrangement fee for us telling you that" They just seem to make things up that they can charge you for.

I moved to First Direct about 5 years ago after being equally fecked off with my bank.

Never regretted it one bit - cant fault them. Call centre in Wakefield, always really friendly and helpful, dont treat you like a eejit. :)

Switching is easy too as they do all the legwork.....just do it.

I also had my student overdraft decreased by £1000, and my main account increased by £500, and they charged me £50 to do. Christ on a bike.

The "B" bank did the same to me. 25 years banking with them and went over for one day by £4 so £22 charge.
Spent the next couple of hours planning how i could kick banks into touch completely but when you sit and think about it its no wonder the government bail them out as they have everybody by the short and curlies. Benefits are paid into banks, wages, direct debits coming out. Is it possible to operate a cash only system because i can`t see it?

RBS do a thing where you can link more than one account.
You set a trigger level on the secondary account that if you hit it it moves funds from the main account every time something goes out.

Means you never go overdrawn unless you do it in two accounts.
