What Can I Do Now?

Gavski (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 26th June 2008, 14:19

Last night I was presenting at a school show. Throughout the day I was working putting lights up and sound desks together etc.
In the evening before the kids returned I sat and ate my dinner. But I had left my bag in the lighting box. (which was locked)
I then went to the hall to do the announcing.
This morning I returned to find my bag had gone from the lighting box and had now turned up in my own classroom. But my Archos player was missing from the bag.
Kids had been coming and going all night from my room to get changed and sit and wait until they were on stage.

Here is my problem - I did not move the bag so one of the kids must have moved it and then taken the Archos from inside. The school say it wont be covered on their insurance as there wasn`t a break in and they won`t reimburse me for the loss.

They said maybe I could claim on my own home insurance to get a replacement and they may be able to help pay the excess.
But what do I claim for? and will I need to get a crime number etc?

i am really gutted about this as it was a 30th Birthday present in January from my wife.

I just don`t know what to do.

I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which i`m dying are the best i`ve ever had.

If you`re going to claim on your home insurance then you`ll need a crime number

Do you have personal belong`s covered outside of your home. There will be no doubt be an excess on the policy if you have

If I were you I`d bite the bullet and inform the missus

Beat the kids until they tell you what happened.

Cut off his little finger and tell him his thumb is next. After that he`ll tell you if he wears women`s underwear.

Seriously, you have two choices: suck it up and forget about it or report to the police, get a crime number and try the insurance route. Check your policy first for a) cover away from your house and b) excess.
You *may* have some insurance via the credit card company as it was a recent purchase?

That is local authority baloney: a theft on school premises will be claimable on the school`s insurance and the school should announce at assembly and ask the kids to squeal on the culprit.

If they get ar*ey, threaten to sue the school governors and local authority.

As as already been said, find out who else has access to the lighting box and take it from there. I wouldn`t have thought the lighting box would have been opened without adults present, ours certainly isn`t.

As for claiming, it is always down the the schools discretion. We suffered a break in last July, and it was touch and go as to whether I was going to be covered for my personal possessions. As it is, I am still waiting for replacemnts/cash, so again it can be a lenghty process.

Your culprit is someone who has a key to open the lighting desk up.

I would also not volunteer/agree to do any extra curricular work, anything "nice" you may do to be helpful until its returned. Maybe offer an amnesty or something. If you stop being nice and helpful, some-one will grass sooner or later hopefully.
