I am not a green peacers or that much of an envirometalist, but...

Neuk Power Stations are downright dangerous

Look at Chernovil in Russia, the contamination produced, the number of deaths unknown, and is still killing today.

Look at three mile island in the USA for mistakes made.

Look at these neuk power stations in the Uk and the higher proportion of Lukemia, child defects, and deaths, all highly suspect due to living close to these power stations that do have radiation leaks (and will have leaks in the future). Of course the authorites will never say radiation leaks or contamination are the cause.

Contamination of the site, land, beach, and the seas around the station for upto twenty miles in diameter.

No, these power stations are too dangerous.

Also they say that it is a cheap power, well when it comes to decommisioning the public taxpayer will have to pay fortunes to remove it and it would be generations, to return these brown-sites back to a habitable condition.

The Scottish have the best man in power at the moment,Alex Salmond. he has specificly refused anymore neuk power stations in Scotland.

God, I wish he was in charge of England and Wales as well.

As for new powers stations, well they got rid of the miners, and imported coal is now dear. (that sorted them out)

They say you would need 20,000 large wind turbines to replace a neuk power station.
Well go ahead, fill the hills of Brittain with these turbines, anything, except that radiation threat over our heads.

When I think of Nuclear power stations can`t help thinking about the Richard Burton film The Medusa Touch

I think its a short sighted plan to use nuke power there are enough renewable sources of energy available and just need tapping.

As you have stated the cost of decomisioning the damn things and storage of waste is 100`s of times more expensive:(

I can`t believe that a Government that is pushing Green taxes and fining people for not recycling is aiming to push ahead with a power policy where we are unable to recycle or dispose of the waste.

I`d much rather see a focus on solar, hydro and wind power.

If a power station in France was blown up or went wrong and the wind was blowing towards us we would be stuffed.Chernobyl was in a region of relatively little population (luckily) so the fallout didn`t effect huge cities.Imagine a power station up north going up with a wind blowing south!.

I wouldn`t be against a nuclear fusion power station.

Trouble is they haven`t invented one yet

As well as moving into wind/solar/tidal power, I like the idea of putting carbon emissions back underground. I don`t know how workable it`d be but it makes sense provided something doesn`t go wrong to make the North Sea do a big burp like Lake Nyos!
