Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn...

And those who dance will spin and turn,
And those who wait will wait no more,
And those who talk will hear the words,
And those who see will fade and die,
And those who laugh will surely fall,
And those who know will always feel their backs against the thin wall...

No...Russell T. Davies had said a few weeks ago that the next series may be the last or the last for the foreseeable future.

However if David Tennant decides to call it a day there may not be a years break!

Murmers have been around for a while about a possible move to Autumn (dark winter nights) season, rather than a Spring - Summer run.

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

I hate answering the phone at work - It disturbs my sleep.

I`m not even sure if I care any more, with that Tate woman being in it. Just seeing her in that picture made me cringe. It`s just not right. :(

It avoids the oversaturation effect. We went from no Dr Who to

DrWho In Spring
Torchwood in Autumn/Winter
DrWho Xmas Specials
DrWho Animated Special
Sarah Jane Adventures
K9 cartoon

I think a rest of the flagship show is a good idea.

I could be cynical and say they have announced a years rest now because the new series with Catherine Tate will be so bad. If they announce after the 4th series that they are resting for a year then everyone will link it to Cath Tate`s appearence. This way it gives everyone a chance to forget how bad the fourth series was.

Plus the years break to allow the main actor to pursue other roles is inevitable if you cast such a good actor as the Doctor.

During Clasic Dr Who did any of the actors playing the doctor do any other roles whilst they were the Doctor?
No.

Were they asked?
Probably not.

During the BW classic years the run was almost continual (50 weeks per annum). Pertwee\Baker years it ran from Autumn - Early Summer.
Peter Davison 3 seasons dropped to 26 episodes (2 eps a week over 13 weeks).
Colin Baker 13 45 min eps (edited to make 26 eps for US & UK repeats) & 13 eps ToATL.
Sly McCoy 3 series of 13 eps.
Paul McGann nuff said.

Yes I think the workload reflects whether the lead actor has time to do other things. But to suggest that previous actors weren`t as good as David Tennant is a bit rough.

Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davidson and Colin Baker are all huge names in their own right (for diffferent reasons) and still would be whether or not they had taken on the role of the Doctor!

I apologise if any of the others deserve such high accolade - I can only speak about the actors I know more about. I have no idea what Sylvester McCoy has done apart from Doctor Who.

They were not huge names when they started DrWho but Jon and Peter were on a par with David Tennent work wise.
Jon - Yes. Did loads of stuff
Tom - famous story of hims working as a builder when he got the job. So not that famous when he started - when he finished is another story...
Peter - Yes - Did All Creatures Great And Small
Colin - No - was a soap actor and bit parts.

The question was whilst they were DrWho did they do other work to avoid typecasting? I think that is what Tennent wants to do - and he is at the start of his career.
