Selling one`s gaff online...

alfie noakes (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 22nd May 2007, 12:47

Anyone done this or know anything much about it?

I suppose I`m talking about online sites that sell your place for a set fee. I also know of someone who sold their place privately online and seemed to do well out of it - don`t spose anyone has done this?

Any sites or snippets of info appreciated.

I`ve heard of the likes of `www.yourmove.co.uk` and places like that.
Would I use one though ?
No,fraid not.
I`m on my sixth house and thinking of moving again.
Nothing,IMO,beats the knowledge and hands-on assistance of a local estate agent.
The net is certainly useful for selling/buying houses, but local agent`s websites come first.
I`ve only ever seen one or two `yourmove` signs on houses up here.
Local estate agents outnumber them massively.
99% of sales are to local people,so I don`t see why a national website would gain me anything.
I`m sure there`s no harm to an Aberdeen house being advertised in Leicester/Wales/Devon,but there`s little gain either.

Agree with what you`ve said, Bowf, but it`s a bit of a one-off property (not mine) and the estate agents don`t know how to price it (slightly crap of them, imo). Thought it might be worth spreading the net wider to non locals looking for a project.

when we bought our house a few years ago, i used the internet to get an idea of prices and area, but the only houses we went to look at were ones we saw on cards in the actual estate agents. it`s possible I saw our very own house on the internet but didn`t give it much notice.

Have you thought about Nova homes, online selling but with a local agent.

Our local one has a commission rate of 0.75% & there`s a fair few "Sold" signs with their name on them around here.

I`ve no personal experience of this but the people on the MSE forums tend to have a poitive opinion of http://www.housenetwork.co.uk/ on the basis that it`s a cheap way of getting your house on the rightmove site

Quick count gives about 30 offices across the south west.

Not quite the nationwide coverage I was expecting, but better than just Exmouth.
