Page 1 of Idiot in upper flat has his washing machine on all night & morning....!!

These past few nights the prat who lives in the upper flat to us has his washing machine on all night! We`ve stated the fact that there is a curfew from 11pm to 7am which we ourselves religiously follow so why cant he?? The wife and I usually start work at 6am most days so we have been experiencing sleepless nights due to his inconsideration. We own our flat along with another 3 people who own theirs but someone owns the upper flat to us and rents it out to this fella in question so I guess he just simply thinks rules dont apply to him!? >:(

Where do we stand?? :/

if he`s making noise likely to cause a disturbance after 11pm you can call the police (I think, mark?)

You can complain to your local council, but in the first instance they`ll send you some forms to fill out in the form of a diary of disturbances. Get ahead by taking notes now (time of disturbance, duration, type of disturbance) Get your fellow suffering neighbours to do the same.

One thing you could do is to fire off an anonymous but polite letter, advising him that he`s causing a disturbance to his neighbours, and unless it stops, you`ll make things official.

it might be a good idea to write to the person that owns the upstairs flat and ask him/her to have a word with the bloke/idiot, or if it`s run by a letting agent get in touch with them, as the owner or letting agency are`nt aware of whats going on.

Find out where the machine is situated & using a long drill..... drill straight up into it. Maybe small leak but the noise will stop. Otherwise buy them a Miele washing machine, problem solved.

Honestly mate, have you spoken to the tenant, surprising how things can be settled amicably just with a wee word.
Let him know that both you and your good lady start at 06:00 hrs and that the noise from the machine disturbs your sleep a great deal. If you get no joy then contact the local authority.
That said, the reason he is doing his washing at these times may be due to him having "White meter/off peak account".
Essentially this means between 23:00 hrs and 07:00 hrs the electricity is cheaper / unit and hence it would make sense to use washing machines/ tumble driers during these hours. I know this does not help you get a good nights sleep but it may be the reason for his washing machine being on at these times.

surely the simplest thing to do would be to engineer a friendship with him over the course of a few months - lulling him into a false sense of security. Then, say in the summer, take him away to Canada, cover him in offal and kick him off a hill. Then the c*** can get eaten by bears when he is trying to sleep.

Seriously though, what would be ideal would be to go up to his flat and smash him in the face with the door or his low-rent washing machine until neither his nose, or the sleep disturbing c***machine works anymore.

Alas, since we live in such a litigious society you`d better call the po`po or environmental health.
