Sign, to convey your anger at this nonsence.

Yup.

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

Todays goal is to exceed yesterdays record level of totally unverifable productivity.

I don`t understand why people knock ASBO`s, they are good things as for most of the recipients, these are the only qualifications they will ever have.

Every time I hear about this, people come up with the obvious solution - scrap car tax and put the duty onto fuel.

The more you use, the more you pay. If you drive a `gas-guzzler`, then you pay even more.

This way, even the cars coming over from the continent will have to cough up instead of freeloading.

The money saved on the administration of the car tax alone would save millions (probably).

Oh no, this is far too sensible.. let`s bring in expensive technology (thank you Mr. Taxpayer) for which a huge black-market for chipped trackers will spring up. Let`s also make another millstone for the government`s neck and give the conspiricy theorists another `big brother` weapon to lay into them with. Joy. :¦

Too many issues to write about in my lunchbreak!!

From pg 24 of the Times on 11th Jan:

Quote:
"A Downing Street experiment in internet democracy has been hijacked by a hardline motoring organisation that is promoting a petition against nationwide congestion charging.

The Associate of British Drivers, which believes that speed limits should be advisory rather than compulsory and campaigns for the abolition of speed cameras, has used the No 10 website to secure more than 200,000 signatures.
...
It claims that the Goverment is planning to force drivers to spend up to £200 on a tracking device that will monitor all their movements, charge them £89 a month in road tolls and catch them every time they exceed the speed limit.

It also claims that "all drivers will be paying far more than today".

The Government... has made no decision on the national scheme which it says is at least a decade away.

A study by the Department of Transport found that most drivers would pay less than they do now under a national system of road tolls...

The technology may also cost the motorist nothing because the DfT hpe to "piggyback" on technology being fitted to many modern cars, such as satellite navigation systems.

The Government has never suggested that the charging system would be used to monitor the speed of vehicles.

A DfT spokesman said " This email is misleading and factually incorrect. No decisions have been made on many of the things it claims are government policy".

Apparently.
