If the company knowingly traded when insolvent, doesn`t that make the Directors personally liable?

I have never seen the point of handing over your money for someone else to buy the stuff and put it in a box. And you can buy vouchers yourself.

Am I missing something?

Unfortunately, the people who order from these catalogues are the people who can least afford to lose the money.

They tend to religiously hand over the money each week right through the year in order to ensure that a massive box of goodies arrives just before Christmas to save them the hassle of going Christmas shopping. The catalogues arrive on your doorstep in January each year, and they are packed with glossy pages showing huge hampers full of luxury food items. Catalogue addicts cannot resist.

But if you actually add up the value of each item on a page, it`s roughly double the cost of a trip to ASDA to get the equivalent items!

Hopefully this will warn others off this awful con. They are far better off buying saving stamps from Tescos each week when they go shopping.

It seems very suspicious that they go bust right at the end of the year after everyone has paid and they haven`t actuallly sent any goods yet. Where has the money been *going*? Someone`s got very rich from this I reckon.

I thought people just got hampers from these things but apparently people order *gift vouchers*... that seems such a totally pointless thing to do - why not just use the money they pay to the scheme to buy their *own* gift vouchers (or better yet a savings acccount if they can resist dipping in).

What often happens in these cases is that the board have a rough idea of when they are going to cease trading, but they continue to try and generate revenue to limit their liabilities to their creditors. I doubt anyone got rich from it, but it certainly is immoral. Things like this dont often just `Happen` they will have know they were facing the wall for months now.

For companies like this, there will be no one who makes away with a bag of cash. The board will have been paid and maybe their cars paid off or something. Its only really one man bands who declare while making off with your money. Companies like this, presumably, will have salaried board members with no direct owners.

The only surprise, really is that companies generally do this just before the end of the month to avoid paying employees. Maybe they had a mid month payday.

Regardless, it still mystifies me that anyone would do this. Surely sticking your cash into a dedicated high interest account then doing the shopping yourself would be far more cost efficient? I mean, who the f*** wants vouchers for places and a catalogue full of sub elisabeth duke s***e?

Maybe t`internet is what finally put the christmas club out of business......you can still order stuff without ever having to get off your fat arse.

I did read on another site that the companies who supply the vouchers were saying they hadn`t been ordered this year. No idea how true that is though. I think they were due to start sending them out soon, so I guess that`s why they`ve gone bust now?

As long as there are thick minkers / chavs / pikies (whatever you call them in your region ),these sorts of companies will go on.

I mean, look at some mob called `brighthouse`,or something similar, that advertise on TV just now.

It`s a glorified clubby book,where you can walk into a store and buy anything you like,at ridiculously easy terms,but ludicrous APR`s ( 29.9% !!!! :/ >:( )

These sub-standards just don`t see it though.
They`re blinded by the fact that £1.28 a week will still allow them money for t`fags and t`booze, regardless of the fact they`ll be paying it for 68 years and buying it three or four times over.

I really thought times had changed and the majority of people had become more financially savvy.
Evidently not. :(

Its like the mixture of sadness, pity and derision you feel when you drive behind someone with a Yes! Car Credit! (or similar) number plate or rear windscreen sticker.

Yay! Youve got a big, newish car! Its going to cost you more than your house! CCJs Welcome!!!!
