The New York Times has blocked British visitors to its website from accessing a front-page story on this month`s terror alert for fear of breaching contempt laws.

From The Guardian.

How do I get to read the page (Headline:- Details Emerge in British Terror Case - New York Times). It sends me to

On advice of legal counsel, this article is unavailable to readers of nytimes.com in Britain. This arises from the requirement in British law that prohibits publication of prejudicial information about the defendants prior to trial.

I tried searching through google but it sends me to the same page.

I smell a conspiracy trying to stop me reading the truth.

They may not have the whole or real truth anyway. Get someone to post you the paper, or get someone to scan a copy for you. End of conspiracy. :)

I guess its fair enough though if they are leaking details - which my or may not be 100% accurate - which could influence any trial

Remember when the Mirror f***ed up the Woodgate/Bowyer trial by their reporting?

I`d rather there was a fair trial than know every detail right this second.

You can access part of the content - and at least the gist of the story through other newswires. This site for example ;)

I don`t believe anything the NY Times write anymore as they either get their information wrong or twist the truth.

Thanks for thinking of us and our under-developed laws

Personally, if the news article could indeed influence the outcome of any trial in progress, then they`re right to block it. Sensationalising it like this will only make people like us lot more determined to read it.
