Now ALL respect for the police I had has gone.
Remember my Russian Student here who because she had a drink & was noisy in her flat was attacked by a man (in his girlfriends flat) & bit him to get him off. The policeman wanted her to sign a paper (I believe a PND Fixed penalty notice, al la marksparks) admitting to breaking a vase & she wouldn`t do it because she said she didn`t do it. Well she`s been on bail since the incident. She has been to a solicitor, who looked at the police files & it was felt they would drop it at the bail & that would be the end, after all it`s her word against his. Well when she reported back for the bail after being kept waiting by the police man (REMEMBER HE KNEW WHAT TIME SHE HAD TO BE THERE). He again tried to make her sign this paper. She asked if she could speak with us for advice , we were waiting outside) & he refused & tried to force her to sign. She said to the policeman "if I sign it will that be the end of the matter or will he (the attacker) be able to take things further (with her now admitting to something she had`n`t done)". The policeman said that the attacker could still take things further & of course she now would have admitted to it (AGAIN even though she didn`t do it. Of course she wouldn`t sign. So this policeman has served a court notice on her. What VERY LITTLE faith I had in the police has now gone. She was in the station for nearly 3 hours. It prooves amongst other thing that the police need much less manpower as if they can waste time on this they clearly have nothing better to do. I AM DISGUSTED & EXTREMELY ANGRY RIGHT NOW.
Girls next time you are attacked or someone attempts to rape you don`t kick him in the nuts & don`t bite him in order to get him off as this could happen to you.

and you don`t think that tarring every policeman and woman with the same brush may be a slight generalisation?

This is not based on this one incedent but the police have to show me different & somehow I don`t think they will.
RE: Now ALL respect for the police I had has gone.
Why not use the police complaints commission? It might help that she gets the opportunity to talk it through with someone.
It may even get the copper in trouble.
Neil.

Well I`m fuming even more now since I`ve learnt more. It seems they removed all her Jewellery, shoes & money & put her into a cell then moved her cell to cell untill she got to the `interagating` room. The police spoke with her solicitor who said it seems she either sign the form admitting guilt or go to court. She asked to speak with us, we were outside or make a phone call, (for advice) both were denied. Then because she refused to sign they charged her with totaly new charges from what she had been told before. Now the charges have increased with a different item damaged & now assault. The damages now come to the exact ammount she had on her at the time (a lot more than the original £50-00 fixed penalty notice). (THIS STINKS). She said to us she expected this type of thing in Russia but not in England. Her father is livid & wants us to get another BETTER solicitor. But this comes back to another post. HOW THE HELL DO YOU GET A GOOD SOLICITOR. We went the middle way a smaller practice but well known. When she first contacted this solicitor she wanted to go & see him to put her side of the story, the solicitor said it wasn`t neccessary as he would get the information from the police. At no time did he tell her there was any change in the original `charges`.

RE: Now ALL respect for the police I had has gone.
All I can say is the following.
By your own admission you were not present at any time when your friend was being questioned so, sorry Paull, you have no idea what your friend or the police officer said.
Removing personal items etc would be , I suppose, immediate action on placing an individual in the holding cells so she has probably been treated the same way any other would be.
As you believe what your friend has said, whilst admitting not being there then consider the following possibility.
Your friend "May" have said to the officer exactly what she confided to you later , ie, "I would expect this in Russia but not in England"
Unless you were present during "ALL" the questioning your opinion on the police in this matter is jaundiced and biased in favour of your friend.
There are always two versions of all stories when two different people are concerned and the truth will lie somewhere in between both version of events.
You Paull understandably trust your friend, I however would not put any trust in statements after the fact when I had not been there and heard it with my own ears etc.

Fancy the Police Officer not having a crystal ball with him when a person makes a complaint of assault and damage - who should he believe then?? But you are happy to slag him off because he takes a certain line with the evidence he has been given.
I suppose everyone who denies an offence is innocent eh?...not many people admit anything nowadays. He has obviously had statements and investigated the circumstances and decided your friend has committed offences. Also he would have taken CPS advice before he charged in this situation.
I do get fed up with this crap!.
By the way....good post Choagy.

A flippant remark like that is pathetic. If you concider your own statement you will notice there were two sides to the story, then why was my friend the only one who was charged, after all she had to go to hospital & it is documented there, he didn`t.
Choagy. you don`t need to be there to know what happened the documents speak for them selves. This copper tried to force her to admit guilt to something she didn`t do.
If she was in the wrong I WOULD BE FIRST TO SAY SO. I know her two well. She`s never had any complaints about her but the other guy has had a lot of complaints about him. That almost speaks for itself.
Anyhow those who want to go against what I`ve said & disbelieve do so. One day it will be you & I hope you get the same responce.
Now if anyone has anything construtive to say I`d welcome all the help I can get.
