Dental bills

I went to the dentist today for a check-up. There were NHS posters up everywhere about the new charging scale - thing is it only ever used to cost me £4.80 for a check-up with the old per-treatment system and now it`s £15.50! Just to look in my gob!

Anyone else think this is absolutely ridiculous? The £15.50 covers cleaning and x-rays, but when I`ve had an x-ray (last year or the year before) my whole bill was only £7.20 - I might as well have not bothered brushing my teeth for the last 6 months and had to have had them scraped-at for the same cost!

Does anyone know if NHS dentists do white fillings or are they horrible silver ones?

OHHHhhhh DONT get me started re dentist`s ( Ive got to go soon re pain in my tooth now ! ? GRRRR )

Nearly EVERY dentist Ive ever been to has to show you a picture of their 8+ children, going to a great school ( Which I`m paying for !? )

Plus my DEEP mistrust re when I was a child and having my teeth filled re DHS paying for it !??!?, Never did believe they ALL needed to be filled, more like as a way to skim off money from the DHS.......And via a Child !??!?, Makes my blood boil

( Rant over, Tooth still hurts!? )

I think the silver ones are being phased out, as they contained a small amount of mercury.

Personally, I go private. It`s £50 a check-up, but my teeth were in a f***ing awful state before Annie insisted I go. Never been happier or healthier since

My dentist used to be NHS, and you had the choice of silver or white fillings.

i think however silver ones were about £5, white ones £40. That`s a rough guess, I just remember white ones cost a lot more.

F*** that

I haven`t had work done in years, and have been just over a fiver for my check-up for as long as I can remember.

If they want to charge that when I go for my yearly check in January, I`ll tell her to pull them all out and save myself some money in the long run.

That`s because they were doing the white ones privately. Unless they`re in the front.
The new charges come in about 4 bands I think - each covering upto a certain amount of work. I think the top one covers more work that used to cost a lot more. But I dare say the dentist could say "They`re fine - we`ll look at them next time...." etc and split the job.?..

Dental work is expensive here in the US also. I had my teeth done in Asia. My cousin in-law is a dentist and the regular prices he charged his patients were about a tenth of what a US dentist charges. Even with the airfare and hotel costs, my treatment was cheaper. And I got a tropical vacation to boot.

Wish I could get NHS treatment.

Poland seems to be cheap and has a great reputation. If I needed anything major thats where I would go.

Off on a tangent here but Poland is also full of fit women! Some of the nicest Eastern Europe has to offer.

You could get your teeth fixed then walk around for a bit showing all the girls your nice teeth. :D
