Cooking prawns advice

The Minister (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 6th June 2006, 17:40

I have finally got a hobby, cooking.

I am making tiger prawns & coconut soup (less than 100 cals) in the next couple of days. I`d have to make it at night and then heat it up at work in the microwave. Would this be ok for the prawns or is there a good chance of me getting sick

thanks

personally having been a chef for many years, i would never re-heat prawns (or any other crustacean/shellfish).

But when you buy them from the supermarket i.e. frozen etc etc, are they not already cooked and you just reheat them?? I am not sure though.

As marksparks says, and I was a chef for 15 years, you should never reheat prawns or any other type of shellfish.
Rvshah, The supermarket cooked prawns have been prepared, cooked and blast frozen in a very controlled environment. You should defrost them overnight in the fridge and reheat them quickly when you need them and only once.
The other issue is the prawns would be like rubber bullets once reheated in the soup in the microwave, totally overcooked and a waste of an expensive ingredient.
